Wearing Hoodies Under Things

Thread Starter

This is my first post and I hope to get a sense of the SF "brain trust" through it.

What do you think of wearing hooded sweatshirts under other outerwear items?  Are there limits to this? Where do you draw the line?

I'll wear one under a leather jacket, but that's about it for me. & try not to mix two hooded items.

Generally, I prefer the material to be thin, so it doesn't make me feel bulky. Also, no graphics. That should be common sense though.

I'm a long time lurker & new as well. I'd welcome you here, but how often do two tourists welcome each other?

I used to be into the hoodie-under-blazer look, but now I think I'm realizing it might be kinda goofy. I think it was mainly because I felt a bit too dressed up with just the blazer, so the hoodie helped dress it down a bit. I still kind of like the contrast you can get from a hoodie/blazer combo though. Here's a cashmere one I wore on rare occasions with a grey blazer

I'll probably get some choice words on that fit, but hey it's all part of the learning process..

I also like the hoodie under leather jacket look.. can take the edge off the leather a bit. I used to wear my grey wool hoodie with a leather jacket, good for warmth and I think the contrast in texture can be nice.

They do when they're positively mad. Thanks for the welcome anyways, it's the thought that counts right? Oh wait, probably not around here....

As for my opinion on the matter.  I agree that a thin, premium hoodie can look good under a leather jacket, or under one of those urban style polyester jackets. But that's about it. The hoodie-under-a-blazer thing can look good on a rare occasion. But most of the time I can't see it without shaking the feeling that the person is trying too hard... (no offense, that's a great looking hoodie man).

That is horrific.

Looks fine to me. Put me in the hoodie under leather jacket camp even though it probably isn't widely accepted here.

Hoodie under outerwear no problem, except under blazers/sport coats..

Your dress goes up with the blazer, then down with the hoodie... but it doesn't settle in the middle, it settles in no bueno territory

I usually wear a hoodie when I'm lurking under the bleachers at minor league baseball games...does that count?

I actually like it. Unzipped though. What bothers me is;

Base

Open layer

Closed layer

Open layer

If either the hoodie were open or if the blazer were closed, I'd try it out.

I feel like "SF brain trust" and "hoodies" are two seperate worlds. if for some reason this isnt the case, id say it's best paired with something casual. military jackets (m65, etc.) or bombers / varsity jackets might be something to fit over them. I havent purposely worn a hoodie for a few years because I think they look sloppy and immature.
