From my reading I have found that This rule mostly applied to the color of your shoes. I say if it looks good wear it.

I make a habit of ignoring all the rules and wearing what works.

I remember an occasion when some young 'know-it-all' came over and asked, "Didn't your mother tell you not to wear such-and-such after Labor Day?" I responded, "When you dress as well as I do, what 'Mother' thinks doesn't matter."

About the only time I won't wear white pants is when invited to a barbeque ... and even then it's debatable. After all, there are white chinos.

EDIT: I've got to stop responding when I'm talking on the phone: plants does not equal pants. But I was talking with a landscape architect.

I normally save my pastels and brighter colors for warmer weather. It tends that my lighter and brighter colored pants are also lighterweight, so I wear them in warm weather too.

I'm pretty sure nobody cares about such rules anymore. Just wear the shirt if you like it!

By the way, nice shirts! I have a couple of those from CT and like them a lot.
