Ralph Lauren Black Label Suit - Pricing? - Page 3

plan is to go buy one at the RL store during the sale in november
40% off on non-staple and odd-sized items... with further discount later in the sale when they are almost out of sizes (that's what i've been told)

but i don't know what kind of prices i can expect on a solid charcoal or navy suit in 40R
as those don't go on sale, do they?

so .. if the charcoal and navy don't go on sale, i will get a charcoal or navy with pinstripe/dotstripe/chalkstripe or whatever

Best,

ahhhhhhh
i didn't want to hear that
but thanks for confirming

RLBL is good, but if I had to buy it at full price I'd buy something else. RLBL is a very particular cut and after owning one, I definitely don't have the urge to own another. I'd buy something from virtual clothes horse. You can get Attolini or Brioni there at the same price as retail RLBL. Sometimes flippers even have TF or Isaia at that price. I'd definitely buy TF over RLBL, provided it's not the ultra wide shoulders and 8 inch lapels version. I'm frankly very tired of the skinny lapels, although RLBL isn't overly bad.

aren't those the reason to buy a tom ford suit? the ultra wide shoulder and 8 inch lapels?

and yes, i can't and won't do RLBL if it's going to cost me $1600-1900 at full retail
for $700-800 i would gladly pick one up though
i guess i need to start checking out the pinstripes in store

Not necessarily. I'm mainly talking about this:

here's me at the TF store dressing room
loved the fabric, loved the pattern, loved the cut ...

just kidding
hmm
the shoulders fit fine though
no overhang
i thought it was just the cut of the suit

i think it'd be fun to own a suit that is so different and bold in design
but i don't know where i'd wear that thing to
definitely can't wear it to work ... unless if i want to get fired

I actually disagree. His neck is wide enough so that the shoulders don't look too wide. Looks good. Not $5000 good, but nothing looks $5000 good.

I remember this sale. Was second private sale in 09 I believe they had all colors of RLBL suits going for $550 plus 15% I think at the Palo Alto store.

Not sure where you are shopping but they definitely had RLBL suits in black (stripes/checks don't remember) on sale in the SF Polo store on Post this summer for $900 I think. Didn't check sizes but quite a few on the rack.

+1 I think it looks great. Come on, this in unaltered. I agree though... I'd have to make many multiples of what I make now in order to justify a TF suit at retail.

icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif That sounds definitely right. I think it was in April. I was a newbie on SF, and I discovered the sale at the leg end of it just by walking into the store. I did pay exactly 400 bucks though... and then the alterations. I went through three rounds of alterations with three different tailors until I got it how I wanted. Wound up costing me around 800 in the end. It's a long story.

I don't know why you guys want solid navy or charcoal suit so badly and would pay a premium... they're very boring. I'm glad that the seasonal ones are discounted because they're much more interesting.

Madison Avenue. The keyword is stripes/checks. AFAIK everything goes on sale except for the *three* *solid* *traditional* colours. Alas...

Regarding RLBL style...
The thing with RLBL is that... it is made for a particular posture. It's either for you or not, like many other brands. In my case that's *the only* suit OTR which looks reasonably good on me (well-fit, slim-cut). Think 36S or 38S + still quite a bit of adjustments. The only alternative found so far has been Gucci Signoria but that's overpriced here in NYC... frown.gif . I had high hopes in Brooks Brothers when I moved to the US but... having bought the slimmest cut they had, I have still troubles with finding a tailor who would agree to make the adjustments... Thus, either RLBL or (most recently) bespoke

wow... 3 rounds of alterations?
the only reason why i want the RLBL suit so badly is because it's close to a perfect fit off the rack
i would only need to clean up the waist a tiny bit
that's it for the jacket
even the sleeves were about just right... forget if i need to shorten a bit or not at all
pants ... undecided if i want belt loops or just keep the side adjusters

but this is all assuming that i can pick one up for about $700-800

i actually only tried on a solid navy in 40R ... and only glanced at the other colors and patterns
but i guess i need to go check out the ones that will actually be discounted

I'm sorry to hear this. Why didn't you ask them to exchange you for another suits? That way, the company would still keep your money and you can have the suits which you love!

What? It wasnt a store, private individual who had the suit for sale.
