Do you hang your sweaters up on a hanger?

Do any of you store your sweaters (cotton, merino or cashmere) by hanging on a hanger?

Is it actually bad for the sweater stretching it out, or that just nonsense?

I don't hang mine. I was always told that sweaters will stretch if you hang them.

Never hang a medium or heavy weight sweater as it will stretch. A thin cashmere sweater particularily a cardigan can be hung but use only a wide shouldered hanger. As a thin sweater is much lighter in weight, it may be ok but this is still not recommended. Better not to get tinto bad habits in the first place.

I don't hang mine. Even when I worked in a shop you could see dimples forming in the shoulders after a few days,. My sweaters get used once a fortnight at best so folding preserves their shape better,

fold or gently roll - don't hang - never never never.

I never hang sweaters. They always get folded and put away. Hanging would cause dimples on the shoulders.

i either fold or hang them off-shoulder (e.g. fold along vertical line, slap arms over, hang length wise)

IF its a lighter sweater i can safely hang them by the shoulder, but drape the arms back across the upper (sloping) bars to minimize the drag

+1 Great Idea.

I still fold and store them in the closet since this method affords more clothing space.

I usualy just fold mine and keep them in a drawer, I do not want to strech them by hanging them.

I also employee this fold-and-hang method. Sweaters still retain shape.

I've made the mistake of hanging sweaters before. Fortunately, they were cotton and regained their shape upon washing. Now, I would never hang, except by the method just posted in here. That said, I'm still gonna be folding- the shelves in my closet are optimized for such, and that stack of colors is just pretty. And it also gives you a great idea of the character of the sweater you grab, rather than having to shuffle hangars around.
