Where to buy Gloverall? Or: Help me find a winter coat/jacket.

Not online, well… maybe online. I'd rather go and try stuff in person. I live near NYC, so this must not be a problem, right?

Anyway, I've been looking for coats. Then I stumbled across toggle/duffle coats and Gloverall and then two coats that I really like.

1. http://www.selectism.com/news/2011/03/18/gloverall-autumnwinter-2011-preview/ — The one with the plaid lining.
2. http://www.selectism.com/news/2011/02/15/gloverall-waxed-duffle-coat/#more-63167 (I really, really love waxed cotton/canvas but I'm afraid it won't be warm enough for, you know, winter. I am actually really hot on Barbour, but again, I don't think it would keep me warm enough [near-freezing winters and snow]. I would love to be proven wrong.)

Another problem is that I can really spend, at a maximum, $400. Cheaper is better, but I'd really like to have as nice a coat as possible.

Thanks to anyone that reads this, and anyone that can help me?

Edit: If anyone wants to offer more general suggestions for a winter coat, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd like something navy, black or otherwise dark-colored. Simple/minimalist or military styled (à la Barbour). A peacoat isn't for me, though. For one, I'm overweight and have somewhat strange body proportions. For two… I like stripes, so I would probably end up looking like a sailor if I wore a peacoat. Looking like one is wearing a costume is bad, etc. Though duffle coats are naval-based, too, right? I can't win. But I like those wood toggles.

i think rugby has some duffle offerings this year for about 400. i got one last year and i really love it

quick edit: at near freezing, a barbour classic with a lining should be more than enough, and run a total of ~500 dollars brand new, way less used im sure. barbour may also offer wool coats

I live in the mountains of NC and find that my Schott peacoat and Barbour Bedale are two great options when it gets below freezing. A liner for a Barbour isn't a bad idea, but I find a nice sweater under it a perfectly suitable alternative.

I got my gloverall from Sierra Trading Post on deep discount.

I wear my barbour tokito bicycle jacket in the wintertime in Vermont layered with a heavy sweater (like SNS Herning Stark heavy) and am fine unless it goes below 15/20F.

Thanks guys. My problem with sweaters is that I tend to sweat in them while in doors. Usually I just wind up wearing a thin cotton sweater in winter, like something most people would wear in spring. I'm weird, I guess. I'm considering it, though.

I can't say that I don't really want a gray J. Press shaggy dog sweater, though. (Does anyone ever sell those things used? Or do people just hold on to them forever. Damn.)

Edit: Damn, I'm really liking that TO KI TO Military Barbour jacket. Way more than I can spend, though.

Also, what about the Ursula/Barbour International? They don't seem to have removable linings, which I take it means that they might be warmer than an unlined Classic Beaufort or Bedale but not as warm as one of those with the lining? (I'm a sucker for the Ursula/International. I'm a sucker for many things.)

Edit the second: It seems the International is compatible with a lining. Hmmm… I think this may be the one. Now, to visit a stockist, I guess. I live near an Orvis store, actually.
