Since i wear a lot of black knits / jackets in the winter i need black to work on my feet as well. . So do you guys think i just need to adjust to them or is it more a case of wearing them in so they have some character to them ? Would suede be a softer looking option ?

Not trying to be a dick but I don't think you could do anything that would make those look good with raw denim. They look sorta like grampa shoes to me. Try some chelsea or something like a Frye Cavalry boots. The Cavalry is basically the Harness boot without the harness.

Agreed. Those shoes are incredibly unflattering, to say the least. Proper desert boots would look much better, as would any assortment of chukka boots.

I'm with DDML on this one... Treks are probably my least favourite Clarks Originals (after the DB and the Wallabee in that order), but they can still work. However, I don't like black Clarks... or maybe I just don't like black shoes in general. Why not take a photo with what you're wearing it with?

Those are pretty bad, I would suggest some new kicks.

It looks like the leather upper is sitting on a nice brown(-ish) sponge

These are what I wear with my APCs

Kenneth Cole Reaction "Office Space" - Definitely don't feel high quality, but they look great.

My favorite Chucks ever. The leather is awesome.

I'm a huge fan of these Fluevogs. The brown ones are great too.

i don't see that clarks and dries van noten are even a fair comparison! i mean, c'mon. treks are great shoes for about $100 with classic appeal and mad comfort. it is a 30-year-old design that conjures up associations with paul weller, oasis, the verve, partytaco... the black color isn't ideal, but check it out in beeswax:
