they have some fantastic suits and overcoats on Tom Ford's website, but no indication of what sizes are available.

The online boutiques that carry this stuff only seem to list limited sizes (eg. online available in Euro 46 48 50 52)....very similar to what Jil Sander carries.

Don't waste a dime on MTM Tom Ford, you could get a bespoke Rubinacci handmade in naples for that cash, which would be much better styled and of much better quality

Depending on how much time you have available, if you're willing to pay $7000 for a MTM Tom Ford Suit, you can surely go bespoke for much less and save $$$ while also getting a much longer lasting timeless garment

If time is an issue, I would go with a local rather than traveling tailor, have heard good things about Ercole's in brooklyn

please post a picture of yourself in an off the rack tom ford suit first for us to admire

Ahh yes, the good 'ol advice on bespoke. Rub or Ercole is not going to give you a TF suit. A TF suit will get you a TF suit.

If you have your heart set on a Tom Ford suit, get one.

Look on the TF website. The cut and styling details, heavily influenced by the fashion for the season, is very distinct. Unless you can find a bespoke tailor that is more like a copyist (and nothing wrong with that), you are hard pressed to get a TF looking suit other than from TF. To mention Rub and Ercole as substitutes or alternatives is waay off.

well stated. theres 2 VERY different styles...one wont make the other. I absolutely love rubinaccis stuff, but a part of me will always want the dramatic tom ford styling.

I do not think we should even bother trying to compare suits - one always forget that some styles are more appropriate for certain people than others.

Both you and Spoo have the ideal physique for a Tom Ford suit, it would be a no brainer that Tom Ford should bubble above the surface as a first / second choice suit (money allowing of course).

Many people cannot carry off Tom Ford style with success. I am one of those to be quite frank. The Tom Ford suits I have (complete with batwing lapels) I put down to bad purchases because my build and looks are much more suited to the fuller more traditional cuts of Rubinacci, Brioni etc. I keep trying to wear those TF suits, but every time my wife throws a fit and says I do not look a picture of handsomeness in them - they take away rather than accentuate my features. For you and Spoo, Tom Ford etc is a good choice. For me, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Brioni, Kiton cut and design their suits in a manner that enhances my looks. I do love Tom Ford's styling and fashion forwardness, but to jump into that bandwagon and carry them off as well as you could, I would have to somehow alter my DNA

If you are true to size US 46, you will need to drastically size up. I am that size, and the two TF suits I have are size Euro 60 and Euro 58, with the 58 being slightly too small for me.

details? i tried a few sportcoats at neimans...some fucking incredible fabrics and cuts.

I didn't mention Rubinacci as a substitute for Tom Ford's style, but rather a superior replacement. TF suits are heavily padded, have extra wide peak lapels, large pocket flaps and 5 buttons on the sleeves, definitely not something timeless. I think spending 7K on something that will go in and out of style is a complete waste of money. If you could get something of much better quality and fit from a bespoke tailor at a lower cost, I don't see any point of paying full retail for TF. If however you are finding TF at C21 at a great price, that is a completely different discussion altogether, but the OP appears to be going to the boutique on madison and not the department store. As for bespoke tailor's being a "copyist", you can get a TF look from rubinacci since their house style peak lapels are wide and bellied, but you will not get the padded shoulders.

It's a black, notch lapel sport coat. Ideally, I'd want a peak lapel, non-black sport coat, but for the price I can't complain. I can still wear it at night for dinners, etc, but hopefully it isn't too long (which it probably will be).
