I swear post office workers are the worst people to deal with. The ones I've dealt with have acted like disinterested teenagers who don't expect to do anything but ring up your cost of postage. Most of them act as if their job doesn't include answering customers' questions. Asking them to just weigh a package, so I can determine 1st class or Priority, is always a treat.

You just need to stop there, enough said!!!

i was once in a post office and a lady screamed at the worker, "only people that can't be employed anywhere else get jobs here!!"

I've thought about making those comments before. Is it a law where they cannot deliver mail unless it has the PO Box # on it, even if it has the name, street address and everything correct? The post office I go to will let people get their packages without ID (I've picked stuff up for others just by saying their box number), mail without an ID if they forget their key, and deliver items to the right box number even if it is the wrong state (I've gotten some tax mail for a city in Maryland a couple times).

The worst that happens to me is that i go to pick up mail for my wife (why i have to pick it up instead of them delivering it is a different story of their laziness) and i they ask for ID then wont let me take it even though they know who i am!!!

My update:

Here is the current status of the package tracked online.....

Customs clearance processing complete
September 06, 2011, 10:04 am
ITALY
International Parcels

While this makes me happy, I'm still far from celebrating. Does this mean it cleared customs?

Notice how there is no information provided about where in Italy my package currently is being held. Perhaps all packages enter one customs department in Italy?

Praying my package gets to its destination. I've done some research online and I'm learning that FedEx and UPS might be more reliable/less risky in the future. (I used USPS.) Also read on forums to always list items as "used goods" and not "gifts" to hopefully avoid the shady Italian postal service from stealing. (Which is SO SHADY.)

Wait, found a website that luckily gave me more details. ("Track trace".)

It arrived in Milan and left Milan today. Or so it says. Hopefully with everything I sent originally still in the box.

it means it has finished customs processing, and is awaiting the recipient to collect it and pay any taxes if they are applicable. This could sit in this status for up to 45 days if the recipient has to pay any fees and chooses not to. It will say delivered or signed for once they do collect it.

Not quite. It is still on its way to where I sent it. Whether the recipient has to pay any taxes once it arrives in his town is another question. One that I'll soon find out shortly.

(Side note, this website track-trace.com is amazing. I entered my tracking number, then specified "Italy", and it gives me a detailed update of my package. Unlike the USPS site.)

This is a great example of you get what you paid for.

I'm assuming you mean compared to a more expensive service like UPS or FedEx?

My package arrived at my friends house yesterday. He paid no taxes. Everything intact.

USPS got my package to its destination in 13 days. Not bad. And I was able to track it pretty well with track-trace once it arrived in Italy. USPS did confirm its arrival once it got there. I just needed track-trace to get the deets as it made its way through Italy.

I'm going to send another package in December for the holidays. I might take my chances again with USPS. Or potentially spend a little more with UPS/FedEx. I did learn however via another forum that you want to mark your items as "used goods" on the customs form and it's better to ship in a brown box to make the package look like it has nothing special inside.

It'll be fine don't worry.
