Triple the Santoni suggestion, good line. I have a pair of double soled brogued captoes that are built like tanks. The "problem" with the AE's you will have with any leather soled shoe. You will be amazed at how comfortable they can become after being broken in, though.

i saw a few santoni's at the nordstrom rack in costa mesa...
but unfortunately they were all just loafers and/or about 2-3 sizes too big
i will just have to keep my eyes out for them the next time i can get down there

You transposed the lasts.

The Strand is on the 5 last and the Boston is the one on the 0 last. As for the pricing conundrum, they are routinely part of the Nordstrom anniversary sale, but that ended a month ago. SF user allaboutshoes has all models of AE for a great price in first quality. If you are willing to accept seconds, email the shoe bank at Allen Edmonds and ask for a list of shoes in your size on the 5 last. If you're not a terribly uncommon size, you should have great success. If you are an uncommon size, you're in a bit of trouble.

I bought the same shoes at Rack. I own a few pairs of AE's and absolutely love them, and these are (and I hate to say it) more comfortable than my AE's. Not as good of quality but great beaters that look nice and super comfortable biggrin.gif

hey question for you
did the shoe leather break in and get softer?
because the upper leather is really stiff in my shoes... kinda hurts the instep when i walk
i've worn them to work 2 days so far
really starting to regret the purchase... unless if the shoes will break in and get better after some wear

I had the same issue...bought a pair of AE's and they hurt like crazy at first.  As I keep wearing them, they get softer and more comfortable.  Now I love them.

Be careful with the sleeker look. It looks very silly in professional situations when someone is wearing trendy italian looking shoes.

I had a similar experience - I purchased a pair of AE Strands from a NRack for $179 and the right shoe fit me perfect but the left shoe killed my foot. I had the left shoe slightly stetched at a shoe repair store then they broke in great after about 10 wearings.

My Magnannis hurt for the first few wears. Then they broke in and were a go-to. These were penny loafers (chiseled).

For the price I paid ($110 NIB) I couldn't be happier, but I exercise caution looking at another pair.

wearing the magnanni espinosa for the 3rd or 4th time today
i swapped out the shoe tree to a slightly bigger one and left the shoes alone for several days
(didn't dress up over the long weekend + i wore my new peal & co. yesterday)
maybe that helped because the shoes feel somewhat better today
