Post SF Tumblr's - Page 18

I dont really see any advantages IG has over tumblr.. I feel with tumblr you can write your thoughts down a little more and reblog stuff you find interesting where as IG is more your stuff only.. by the way Dirnelli, thanks for the follow.. I have been a fan of your blog and it has been saved to my favorites for over a while now.. so its cool that I can actually follow you..

I've been talked into launching the 'dirnelli' IG account, and would be curious to know about what are some good IG accounts to follow, in particular those of other SFers.

I have both. My IG is more personal and I don't post menswear related pics on a daily basis because for one I don't wear a suit to work.

I'm following you on tumblr however. I"ll add you on IG as well, my IG handle is "affablegent"

More interaction on IG IMHO. Easier to gain a big following by excessive use of hashtags I guess (I haven't really worked so much on that though. Also, it's a bit more personal, not 99% reblogs, as tumblr.

I'm thinking of going all out and launching a mirror Pinterest account as well. Any thoughts on the merits of doing so?

The nice thing about IG is that I can post to Tumblr, FB, and Twitter from IG all at once.

I have a mirror Wordpress blog which I'm thinking of shutting down as I migrate my blogging to other platforms. Should I?

Thanks. I noticed your Friday Challenge pics are excellent, I was wondering why you weren't doing a WIWT Tumblr. Glad to see you hopped on the bandwagon.

Some nice tumblrs here : )

Not very good or focussed but its kinda 'all me', no reblogs. The stuff I'm into except lifting, that wouldn't fit in.

Each platform has its own unique characteristics and communities. I think a consideration of their relative advantages or disadvantages won’t offer much clarity without a higher-level consideration of your goals and what you’re trying to achieve.

For what it’s worth, I have Tumblr, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts, and I only find Tumblr really worthwhile for anything.

But then, my goals may be very different than yours.

I never really got the appeal of multiple platforms. If you have a blog, you have a blog. If you don't, you don't. I started mine as a dumping ground of inspiration; a landfill of excess. Replicating that real estate only deludes the convenience of aggregation. Plus I'm a firm believer that the world only needs so much of me.

That said, if I was trying to monetize my hobby, build an image or launch a brand, I'd be everywhere and then some.

This is really an experiment in social media for me.

A couple of quick takeaways, 2 days in:

1) I agree, Tumblr seems to best fit what I'm trying to do and who I'm speaking to (literate #menswear geeks, not fashionistas and aspirational teenagers.)

2) Instagram and Pinterest are laughably constraining in terms of functionality. Square pics only ? From an iPhone only ? WTF.

3) When posting to Instagram, I post to FB, Tumblr and Twitter at the same time, which is very convenient. But since my Tumblr account was already set up to post to FB and Twitter, I ended up double posting to Twitter and FB without realizing.

I think you'll have to reconsider the IG audience. At least in Sweden, almost everyone's on IG, including the classic menswear geeks. I do agree though, the square format (and the crappy definition) of the pictures suck on IG.

yea I have an IG but I barely use it if at all..I think I have one pic on there..IG to me is more of a young man's game..plus my crappy Iphone pics just does not help either..as a newbie to Tumblr though I am falling in love, lol..dont have as much time to really browse the various blogs on there.. but man there is so much content out there its overwhelming.. so for now its FB, Tumblr and twitter for me..

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: no photosets either on IG, wtf. Plus, aggressive automated cloud tagging just to catch followers...
I concur that IG seems to be a young person's vehicle.
It may be that it'll eat Tumblr's lunch, but I hope not.
Do we agree that I should pull the plug on Wordpress?

A friend and client has the worlds largest blog website for a particular expensive hobby. He has had an amazing following. It was nice when he expanded on to Facebook and selected more general subjects to post. But then that expanded to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. I don't like getting three messages a day and the stuff on FB, Tweets and Instagram is beginning to seem watered down.
