I think the only time they will refuse a refinishing request is if they are subs, worse, or altered or something along those lines.

You dont need one, and they will do it as long as you didnt fix it at a shoe repair before (i believe back taps are ok) and they are not overly worn out. P.S. Price of recrafting is going up on Wednesday so if anyone has any get in beforehand

From Allen Edmonds recrafting FAQ, you don't need proof of purchase to have them recrafted.

Bought 2 pairs of shoes from allaboutshoes. Came quickly (~ 2 weeks) and exactly as ordered. Will be picking up another pair or two when the new ones come out..
