Ok ok ok.... i think i can do this! I realise now that the thread was made before September and said I wouldn't do it. Though I made a purchase on the 31st of August! (And just received it today)

 

Been thinking about getting topy on my shoes (main urge i am fighting at the moment). Is it an emergency to get the topy because I want to wear the shoes and do not want to risk wearing the sole too much! I know I could wear other shoes for now and get the topy in October!

I found another activity to occupy my time - purge! I pulled out two suits that I was keeping for sentimental reasons and I know I will never wear. They will be heading to the Goodwill this weekend.

As I have new horn buttons to replace the brass ones on the blazer… is this maintenance or alteration? I have an idea as to the proper answer here and will put down the needle and thread.

Basic weekly polish of shoes as normal and nothing else over here so far.

I blocked out the regular retail sites I visit because they would do me in looking for those new dress boots I want. Heck, we don’t need boots till October right?

I threw mine away as soon as I got to the office. Just in case


I've been doing this, too! It's making my closet much more manageable and it's nice to know the things in there are only things I know I will wear.

I'm assuming no alternations allowed just means paying for them. I'm going to alter some buttons on my shirt myself to make my cuff slightly smaller. Allowed?

Be strong, Dave. NYC will be there for a long time. No need to buy something every time you visit.

Do you really think topying them is worth it? I'd just install toe caps and be done with it.

Off-topic, but do you polish your shoes every week? You must have few shoes or a lot of time. I'm curious why you have to do it so often? I polish mine once every 2-3 months and usually a quick brushing inbetween brings back the shine just fine. And I have them stepped on constantly.

You're an inspiration to us all, MoL, don't let us down now! Dream about all the gorgeous shoes and boots you own already! Enjoy them to their fullest! At least fulfill your pledge to last until the end of the month, then reward yourself with a pair. Only 21 more days of September left to go! If you find yourself weakening still, think of what other non-clothing items you could afford to buy with the money that you'd be spending on the shoes. Concentrate on the value you get from those things.

I'm still with you, MoL. I need a ruling though:

While shining shoes today, I noticed that one pair is developing holes in each sole. I don't have a really large shoe rotation, so I can't really just put these aside for a few weeks. Am I allowed to get these re-soled? Does that count against my $100?
