Well Priced, Solid Colored Array of Polos and T Shirts

I'm not sure in terms of quality but I think this is a pretty cool idea. It would definitely look pretty sweet in your wardrobe. Out of curiosity, would you perhaps have a second polo/t-shirt of those you might think would get higher wear, or are you just going to stick to the one of each color? Also, will the color scheme be evenly distributed, or will there be more shades of certain colors?

Oh also, I don't know anything about the quality of Lacoste polos (probably not what you're looking for), but I know that they're available in a wide array of solids.

The Paul Stuart ones seem to have longer sleeves and placket that is my preference. I'm also not wild about the logo.

I can attest to the quality of Lacoste polos. They hold their color pretty well IMO. I've got 3 in rotation right now and I like the variety of colors they offer. On occasion you can find their colored polos on sale however, white, black, and navy, never go on sale. Their LIVE! line is cut slim and the fabric is breathable and lightweight. One thing worth noting; they will shrink if you throw them in the dryer but, if you wash them again, hang them up to dry, and stretch them, then the shirt will return to its original length. After doing this 2 times the process becomes somewhat tedious.

All solid colors? What a boring choice. Live a little. They may look pretty hanging in your closet, but they'll look rather dull when being worn.

That's not to say a solid polo is useless in a wardrobe, but the right striped polo adds a hell of a lot of visual interest.

As much as it pains me to write it, try J. Crew. Generally well-priced and often-discounted, good fit with shorter sleeves, and available in a wide variety of colors.

Definitely mix it up - solid colors are great and staple, but nothing wrong with the patterns.

Lacoste are fairly good polo shirts, but I just cannot get around that croc/alligator logo, it ruins everything. I really do prefer no logos or animals on my shirt.

I'd be interested to hear suggestions for T-shirts. Does anybody here have experience with a high-quality "luxury" T-shirt? I'm thinking along the lines of RLPL or something like that. I really only wear T-shirts to the gym or when I'm lying around the house, so I buy those mostly from H&M for $5.95. Is it ever worth the cost to pay for a premium T-shirt?

What's your idea of a high quality luxury t shirt? are you thinking $40-$60 or $325 for a Hermes White tee?

I have 3 of the BBBF, if you want to call that "luxury," t-shirts that I got during the last sale, I think for $25/ea. They're quite a bit thicker than a normal t-shirt and seem to be constructed pretty well, they seem to hold their shape a lot better than a normal t-shirt. As far as construction and fabric, they seem to be on par with some of the RLPL and Brioni offerings I've seen. I do like them, but I wouldn't pay retail for them, but then again, that's a given on this forvm.

I've started wearing these pretty much exclusively. I buy the "Broken-in Pocket Polo" and have found that sizing down one size, to a small, in the regular fit (vs. buying the slim in medium) is the best fit for me.

I also really like Banana Republic's "Luxe-touch" polo because it's a bit more polished looking, however they run about an inch shorter than the J. Crew ones, which matters a lot to me (since I'm 6'1 and need a small so it's not too wide).

There's no point buying expensive plain/solid tees IMO. I get mine from H&M for $7.95 a pop and though the quality varies (I've got one that feels like really nice organic cotton, light as a breeze; and then others with the exact same tags that shrank very poorly and quickly lost their softness) you can throw them out and get new ones any time something happens to one of them thanks to the low price.

And I say this as someone who's spent $300 on a t-shirt because I loved the design, so don't think it's unadulterated cheapness motivating my advice. If you can find some kind of "luxury" (plain) tee like the guy above, it seems reasonable to me to shell out up to $25 or $30 for it (if you know ahead of time it's durable and you're actually going to wear it) but otherwise what are you paying the extra for?

All in all a bunch of nice solid polos will serve you better, and if you buy them somewhere nice they are that much more distinguishable from their low-end counterparts than t-shirts. McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Hermes et al certainly use nicer fabrics than Hanes and J.Crew but their plain tees still don't really look any different or better, so the many-hundreds-of-dollars price point is completely ridiculous.
