Watchband for Submariner

I’ve got a mid eighties Submariner that I like to change the band on. I’ve already got a few Nato’s and a variety of sub $100 bands. I’m ready to upgrade to something a little nicer. Croc, shell cordovan, etc… Any thoughts? Also, where to purchase. Any pics of your watchbands and what you’ve done would be much appreciated.

Maybe just me, but I dont think a croc or shell band belongs anywhere near a Sub. Nato, if anything.

You can get a bespoke Camille Fournet band. I say bespoke even though it's really just customized. You pick you material, stitching, length etc. I think they also have RTW versions in lug sizes and lengths.

I've seen some made up very nicely with sharkskin bands for diving watches. I had one on my Tudor Sub from the early 80s before I traded it. A very nice strap.

I think Hirsch also has sharkskin as well as stingray.

I've also seen croc made up with natural rubber underneath, although I think that's better for a pilot than a diver.

I'd personally stick with one of the two fishes- shark or stingray. Much more appropriate for a diver. Or just natural rubber. Not synthetic.

Here's a Camille Fournet sharkskin with natural rubber liner: http://www.watchstyle.com/pd-1560031237.htm?defaultVariants=search0_EQ_Black_AND_search1_EQ_18/16%20mm_AND_search2_EQ_M-Regular_AND_search3_EQ_Steel_AND_{EOL}&categoryId=5

Kind of agree about the Alligator/Croc on a Submariner.. But I have a Sirtoli Alligator watchband and I love it. Great company

I bought a custom-ordered Short length Andreas Sport in Dark Honey w/ white stitching and their silver deployment clasp.

Phenomenal strap. I have pictures but I'll have to track them down for you. Give them a call and talk about what you're looking for, they are very nice over at Sirtoli.

^ those combos are interesting, particularly the lighter brown straps on a speedy.

I like this racing strap posted in the watch porn thread. It's also on a speedy but I would be interested to see what it looks like on a sub or other diver.

I really recommend an Omega metal mesh band. They are comfortable & very high quality. Look real good imo too. Yeah it's Omega branded on the clasp but who cares. Not dressy at all.. but dive watches aren't dressy anyways.

EDIT:

You're definitely not alone on this. It's been tried and it never looks right. NATO/ZULU or metal is the only way to go.

Y'know I was on this thought too, but then this:

And I must say the first one looks very nicely done... the second is kinda odd looking but neat nonetheless.

Sometimes a little variety is nice. I’ve worn the watch daily for 26 years. A few years back, I noticed a fellow, wearing a Sub with a leather band and I was hooked. Every time I change the strap, it gives the watch a different look. Such as this casual band I had made by BJ straps:

I have to say that I actually like leather bands on dive/chrono watches. I have a Speedy that looks great with a Sartoli Croc in Honey.

By the way that Sub with black croc and the one with the brownish/honey leather are really nice.
