Visiting Mauritius: Yes or No?

I've received an invitation to visit Mauritius next spring. Given the distance (two consecutive overnight flights ... but might stop a night or two in London going and coming) that's quite a ways to travel. Do any of you have experiences / recommendations / warnings you are willing to share?

Met a girl a few years back from Mauritius, she was tight, she didn't like where she was from though. Other than that no idea.

Well, I've decided to go ... so will find out what it's like.

As for her not liking being from there, it's a fairly isolated place when considering the size of the island and the fact it's 1/4 of the way between Africa and Australia. I don't plan to stay more than a few days ... then will head to Cape Town for a week of visiting friends.

If I swim, it will be in a pool ... and I'll make certain it's not a shark tank. As for AIDS, it's very unlikely I'll be having sex with anyone other than my 'travel companion.'

if you want ideas of things to see/do in Cape Town gimme a PM. I'm from there originally and spent about a month touring around a few years ago.

I used to be a part owner of a business on Mauritius in the mid-80's. It had a beautiful island quality yet also impoverished. Voodoo and superstitions were a part of the everyday culture. Around that time major European resorts were begining to open up and many charters were available especially from France. Things have surely changed but if you are going to Mauritius, why not stop off at the Seychelles and have a island tour of both.
