Ordering Leica MP - Page 12

that makes sense, but they might have stripped and repainted the top plate.

either way, it's brass. when the paint wears off, the thing's not going to rust or anything.

A thing of beauty.

I've owned a couple M's in the past.  One was stolen :(  and the other I sold :(.  Great piece of history and engineering.  I really like the images Ralph Gibson has made with the M.  Enjoy in the best of health.

Yeah my brother was talking about it. Another collab here:

nice to see someone buying a camera and using it in the situations it's good for. also, thank god the street photos aren't moriyama-esque.

$5k camera case...that's expensive, even for a globe-trotter.

at least that silver anodised noctilux asph is going to be worth it.

They are completely different sorts of cameras to begin with. The 7D is an SLR. The Leica M cameras are rangefinders. They are completely different technologies. With an SLR, you look through the lens when you look through the viewfinder (by way of a mirror). In contrast, the viewfinder on a rangefinder does not look through the lens at all. Rather, they are calibrated such that what you see in the viewfinder approximates the image the lens will capture. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

Modern digital SLRs will of course have more features, but that doesn't make them "better"--is a Honda Odyssey better than a Ferrari 458 Italia because it has more features? A major draw of the Leica system is access to Leica lenses, which are arguably the best lenses on the market for 35mm cameras when it comes to image quality. Of course, you will have to do without autofocus, zoom, video, etc.

I meant 35mm in terms of film (and sensor size). In DSLR speak, that means full frame--that's why it's called "full" frame, because it is equivalent in dimensions to a frame of 35mm film.
