Was just about to facepalm that comment.
I'm willing to bet that Sahadi's on Atlantic Ave carries everything you need. If not, then Jamaica Heights is just a hop, skip and a jump away. If you can't find the right spices there, then you're blind and have no sense of smell.
Really, for 90% of the Indian cooking that you might do, all you need is turmeric, cayenne, cardamom and cumin (along with garlic, onion and ginger). These are ridiculously easy to find throughout NYC. If you buy whole cardamom and cumin and grind it to order you'll get better flavor than pre-ground, and you can toast the seeds for even more depth of flavor. I tried grating my own turmeric once but the results weren't pretty.
