TSA Checkpoint friendly bags that aren't ugly?

Anyone know of any that aren't the standard corporate nylon one? I know there is the Timbuk2 Commute 2.0, but ideally I'd like something made out of pebbled leather or waxed fabric...

spending lots of money on bags youre intending to put through the airport is dumb, people who handle baggage are very careless. keep that in mind

Sorry, I should be clear - I want a carry on bag that holds a laptop which is designed so you don't have to pull your laptop out when going through security.

You know.. waxed cotton is available on timbuk2 if you go the custom build route (and made in SFO, to boot).

I know what type of bag you're talking about, and posted this a while ago as well in some thread, but you've got few choices if you're trying to look "stylish". Aside from what you can get on Amazon when you search "TSA friendly", take a look at either Tumi's offerings or Briggs and Riley. yes, still black nylon (although Tumi may have a leather offering that uses its "T-Pass" feature) but a step up from the standard computer bags you may find at Best Buy or whatever.

I guess I am hoping for something more "dress-up/dress-down" like a Jack Spade or Porter type bag....

For me, I bought a Timbuk2 bag similar to the above for the reason of "not taking out the laptop" hassle and would be roomy. However, there is no guarantee that setup will be accepted as it comes down to TSA officer or respective airport security personnel's interpretation of it. This was evident with me still be asked to take the laptop out even though it was clearly separated in the TSA friendly format.

You might be better getting a bag that suits your taste and allows easy removal of the laptop that is not a TSA specific design.

I run into this argument occasionally from overzealous TSA agents. I tell them to get their supervisor or take the laptop out and run it through themselves if they don't like it. I've never had one push back...

edit: I have a Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 in Potrero (all panels). It's not the bag I'd prefer, but it fits my 17" laptop and plenty of necessary accessories/books/notepads that I have to lug around to client sites. As soon as I find one that's equally stylish/functional/neutral, I'll buy it and this one will go to charity.

I've had TSA sleeves and tried using a TSA bag once (borrowed from a friend). I've had to take my laptop out of my bag and sleeve in all airports I've been to since TSA started their TSA friendly list. Airports all over US, Europe, Asia and Africa domestic/international. I've even had to turn my laptop on twice as well. Get a bag that looks good and has easy access to the laptop is the best/easiest way to go. I'm not going to spend 10 minutes arguing with a security agent / hold up the line / still end up taking out my laptop / waste everyones' time.

Then I am tempted by the Porter Shorthauler...

I had 2 guys in front of me at security today and they both had to take out their laptops. In fact, they made them both put the computer in a bin by itself.

Yeah it's always been like that for me.

The BIG TSA posters right beside the security line state (even have pictures) that you don't have to take the bag out if ... followed by the description of the bags that work.

Edit: This http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/tsalaptopsign_sfo2-225x300.jpg

I fly about 6 times a month and have not seen anyone using those bags get harassed, TSA people just say "take out the laptops" out of habit.
