The Fat Duck Cookbook

The Fat Duck Cookbook. I came across this because of the illustrator, Dave McKean, but there is much else about it that seems interesting.
Anyone have it?
Seen it?
Read it?
Thoughts?

I have it, but I don't cook from it. Maybe some day. The illustrations and pictures are really neat.

Which version do you have -- the newer hardcover, or the older, giant, slip-cased version? Though I will pretend this is a gift for my wife, since I don't cook and she does, I am really buying it for myself for the McKean illustrations, so I am leaning towards the older, extra-large version. It costs about three times more, so I would love to see them both, first, before deciding. Maybe the library or the local B&N has a copy (Edit: the library does not).

I have the newer hardcover. To me, the upcharge wasn't worth it. And my bookshelf can't really handle cumbersome books like that (not that it didn't prevent my GF from buying a Tadao Ando book that is like 350 lbs.)

lol, I have both the hardcover Fat Duck and the Ando book.

Barnes & Noble didn't have either edition, but they did have the Heston Blumenthal In Search of Perfection book. That looked like an interesting read, too. Anyone have it? Any good? I only skimmed it for a moment.

I have the non-huge version. As a cookbook it is fine if you have all of the equipment and special ingredients, and like that kind of food. In other words, the recipes are well written. In search of perfection is a pretty cool book. Your wife could cook from it without problem, but most of the recipes are very long, and given the weekend limitations, she could only do it on Sunday. It might make for some fun projects with the kids, though. Nothing is particularly difficult to do in there. Just a lot of steps.

She starts cooking on Thursday evening and takes Friday off, so the weekend restriction is not so bad. Maybe I will get it tomorrow. Too bad there are no McKean illustrations.
