Why do people distort their faces when they post a picture in the WAYWT thread?

I need to understand why people do this. Are they afraid of identity theft or something?

Just let it all out man, we're all family here! What's the worst that can happen?

There are a lot of successful people on this site that work in industries/circles that they do not want their identity known for fear of their professional lives suffering. As someone who works in the creative field I doubt any pictures of me dressed up fancy on the internet will cause any damage. However, if you are in a more conservative or political (corporate politics, not government politics) industry, something like talking about clothes all day on the internet could have much more far reaching professional and social ramifications.

Not to mention that there are probably thousands of billable hours a month spent on here. Though I think it's safe to say my boss is not an SFer.

Then there is the obvious privacy associated with not having your face all over the place. I think a mix of all three are good enough to keep most people from posting pics of their face.

Me? I don't post pics of my face because I have a ****** camera and am inherently lazy. :)

Clearly the people who blur their faces do so because they don't possess lower jaws.

This.

I don't mind posting my face here sometimes since my life is already rather public being a musician.

It's hard to get a real idea of complete "look" without seeing the person's face. It always looks creepy when I see a beautiful suit on someone who's face is distorted. It looks like they're a Dick Tracy villian.

Maybe it's just because I am a very open person.

Agreed, if you're worried about being snooped and getting in trouble for wasting time on here, then maybe you should just spend less time on SF.

It creeps me out when people, like PG, only post their torso. I mean, where are their legs? Do they not have any? That's just weird. A jacket MUST come with pants, or it's an orphan. Are we all orphans? Is that why we come to this forum, to find other orphans and feel normal? Answers people.

I don't post pictures of me in any shape or form...

Facebook id different than SF because you can have a limited control of the people you're getting in touch with...

Some people are borderline stalkers and if you're a high flyer , that kind of exposure can have negative effect on your career..

It keeps your face from getting plastered all over the internet without your permission or knowledge.

Also, many of us are ugly. :teach:

A few religions forbid my likeness to be made.
