Moderntailor trial shirt - Suggestions for improvements please - Now with 2nd trial!

I've been lurking for a while now, and thanks to information from these forums I recently ordered a trial shirt from Moderntailor, using slightly adjusted measurements from another shirt. I'm pretty happy with the fit for a first try, but I'd really like to get some feedback about what I should improve for future orders.

My impressions - the cuffs are a bit big and the forearms are a bit loose, the shirt is a little short to wear tucked in, and there is something going on at the back of the arm holes but I can't work out exactly what. I might be able to take the waist in a little too as it looks a bit loose when tucked in, but I'm not sure.

All comments gratefully received, thanks in advance!

No comments?  Do I need to put up some different pictures?  FYI, the shirt has been washed already.

  • Too blousy
  • Armholes too low
  • Yoke too long
  • Wrists far too baggy
  • Arms too baggy for my taste.

Edit - what shoulder position did you choose as there is a complete lack of symmetry and a lot of excess back fabric

Thanks, I'll try a shorter yoke and smaller armholes.

The cuffs came out far larger than I expected so that measurement is already adjusted for the next shirt. I assume with a smaller armhole and cuff, that the sleeves will automatically end up slimmer?

I picked the "normal" shoulder. I think the asymmetry is probably me trying to hold a slightly un-natural pose for the photos. Anyway, if I take an inch or two off the waist, would this sort out the excess fabric, our do you think it's a different problem?

So, trial shirt number 2 is here!

I made some adjustments to the sizing (see picture with sizes below) and think I have a better fit this time around.  I think I still have some changes to make before it's nailed down properly, so I'm looking for feedback again.

My impression is that although the general fit is better, but around the lower back there is still a little excess fabric (even though the shirt has darts). This seems to cause a little kind of "fold" on the sides above the trouser waist, so I think I might try to take a little bit out of the waist measurement to deal with this, at risk of the waist being a bit closer when I'm sitting down.  Also, I noted that when the yoke is reduced, it seems to naturally lift the armholes as well.  This means I can probably go back up 1/2 inch on the armhole measurement, which might help with what feels like a bit of upper arm tightness.

I also wanted to note that the fabric this time is quite nice - white twill k96.  Medium weight, with a nice feel to it.

All sizing feedback gratefully received!

A little excess fabric around the back is not a bad thing. If you go too tight the buttons will be gaping when you sit down. You could take off a tiny bit more, but not much.

Despite the shortcomings it still looks like it fits a lot better than most off the rack shirts fit most people. Even the first one looked better than most.

I'm convinced, I'll give it a shot now.
