I recommend the deserted woods near my cabin with the locked basement.

See you there.

I have been told SF and NYC are great for eating, people watching, and reading a book while drinking your tumbler of neat whiskey in a trendy underground lounge.

The western Dakotas. Costa Rica.

You're going to have to be more specific to get good answers. What is your budget? How much time do you have? What do you like to do on vacation?

im in the same boat as OP. Looking to travel next summer for a month or so and willing to spend about 3K for everything (airfare, board, food, etc). I traveled to India/HK/Thailand 3 years ago with a friendsy. I prefer to backpack through a less developed country(ies). Thinking of South America

I think Bolivia/Peru would be great if you've never been to Machu Picchu. Ask GQgeek about his South America trip.

Here's a really informative website on backpacking to various places around the world:

Where in asia specifically?

I had a blast going through Croatia along the Dalmatian coast and up through Slovenia on my way to Prague. Very affordable and very beautiful.

Don't go to Montevideo. It's not that interesting. Buenos Aires is nice for a couple days, but I found it not all I imagined. Argentina could be a great trip, but I wouldn't stay in one pace for that long.

South America is fun, but if you're young and alone, I would recommend Eastern Europe or SE Asia. You'll meet tons of other kids backpacking too, can stay in cheap places, and can get from one place to the next pretty cheaply. South America will involve longer travel distances, which costs more, and probably be less densely packed with travelers like you. Eastern Europe is great -- do either the northern part from Hungary to the Baltics, or the southern part from Croatia to Ukraine. Good food at reasonable prices, lots of hot girls, plenty to see, and plenty of partying to do. SE Asia is great fun too and dirt cheap. You can visit a bunch of countries, the food is great, getting around costs nothing, hotels cost nothing, and there is a lot to see.

Also, go to FlyerTalk now, sign up for some credit cards with big sign-up bonuses, and get your round-trip for free.

I guess I'm assuming you're going for a while. Was that the plan?
