Who makes the best MTM shirts for visitors to Hong Kong?

I'm off to Hong Kong soon and want to buy some MTM shirts.  Who should I buy from?

My first stop to research this question was the WWW.  I found this great forum and have joined the same day!  Many thanks to members for all the info I've read to date re WW Chan, Jantzen, Ascot Chang and others.

However, some of those posts go back a while, and a lot relate to problems ordering over the Internet ...

So, I'd be grateful to know if anyone has been to Hong Kong recently and has advice about where I should buy my MTM shirts to share.

FYI this is not the first time I've had shirts MTM, but I'm told the quality / price equation in HK is good, and as I'm going to be there anyhow, I thought I'd give it a try.

I would highly recommend reaching out to MyTailor.com. They are based in Hong Kong. When I was there last, I was able to personally meet with Joe and have him take my measurements. The toughest part about customs shirts is the pattern, and seeing how Joe manages this was very impressive. He is very sophisticated in his pattern making. Every pattern is individually modified (albeit in a computer drafting program) to accommodate each person's uniqueness.

Once you nail your pattern, then you can reorder over the internet at will, which is what I am now doing.

I believe he said that he was also purchasing a new laser-guided cutting machine that would perfectly match patterns across the garment -- something even the most sophisticated cutters have trouble with.

While you're in HK, make sure you go check out The Armory. The kid who owns this just recently purchased Drakes of London. I hear it's incredible. Unfortunately, I missed it on my last visit.

Cheers,

Kirby

What price range are you looking at?

David's Shirts in the Mandarin Oriental Shopping Arcade is worth a look. Ascot Chang is an excellent choice

Thanks Kirby and stylomilo - all tips much appreciated!

To dragon8's comment on cost ... US$150 would be about tops for me, which may well make Ascot Chang and WW Chan out of my league, unless I get tempted to flex that credit card  ...

All other feedback welcomed.

I would say Ascot Chang. There are some fabrics within that price range. Flex that credit card!

I'd second MyTailor. I just received my first shirt from them the other day. Their collection of fabrics on the web site is fantastic, the thick MOP buttons are incredible, and being able to order more online after your visit is nice. If you can get measured by Joe in person in HK, that sounds too good to pass up.

For reference, I ended up at David's shirts in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  I did check out Ascot Chang in the Peninsula but didn't gel with the staff there.

'David' did a good job.  The collars (I went for fused in the end) are slimmer than my London shirts, as are the seams.  I've grown to like both!

Hopefully I'll be back in HK before too long and will use David's services again.
