Experimental results: Cleaner & Conditioner on Alden PTB cordovan

Good morning guys.

I dearest girl friend thought it would be wonderful to give me shining-shoes-surprise by polishing my cordovan PTB while I was away. smile.gif

So she applied her Hush Puppies cleaner & conditioner on my cordovan. Here are the results:

Thank god she stopped after she saw the white grease. baldy[1].gif

Does anyone know how to remove the white grease? I am not sure whether the white areas are a layer of white grease or they were a result from removing oil from the cordovan.

I tried with everything I knew, including rubbing with clothes, with damp clothes, wax, and nothing works.facepalm.gif

Any advise would be appreciated! I am thinking about bringing the shoes to a local cobbler...

cordovan is one damn resilient material. I would try removing with a damp cloth. Again, sweet gesture by the gf inlove.gif

Thanks man. I brought the shoes to a local cobbler and the guy fixed it! He said he used some mink oil to restore the lust, waited for the leather to dry, and then put on some wax. He charged me 15 dollars...

Just buff and brush and you'll be fine. It will take a lot of elbow grease.

Are you talking about the shoes, or the girlfriend?

I have a pair of Alden for BB shoes and a few others. I use a warm wet cloth to clean, then I use a product called Leather Lube to moisturize and have never had any issues with discoloration or other markings.

I originally purchased it at a DSW in Dallas 3 years ago and I just ran out this week. For an inexpensive shoe care product, It's gone far above and beyond my expectations as a shoe connoisseur.

I say both. nod[1].gif

Yikes! Glad you were able to get them back up to 'snuff. I would have used the damp cloth to remove as much as I could, let dry, follow with some AE Conditioner/Cleaner and then some AE Shell Cordovan treatment. Other cleaners would be fine, too, AE is just the stuff I happen to use and have on hand.

Nice gesture on your gf's part but I'm reminded of the stories about the kids that wash Daddy's car with a brillo pad. smile.gif

Not sure why you even tried it yourself, I would have just taken it to a cobbler.

I'm glad you took the time to take a picture of her damage to show SF... haha.
