+1 and anything with Kevin Costner

The Ring was one of the most perfect horror movies IMO cos it seemed to touch on all our fixations about wrongness and boundaries - the cliff (land and air) , the coast (land and sea) , the TV (real from unreal), the well, (earth and sky) etc Great book by Mary Douglas, an anthropologist, called 'Purity and Danger' all about the terror of 'things out of place'.
The Fly good too. and Nosferatu the orignal and remake with Kinski, scariest Dracula with long pointy nails, bald, sunken eyes and rat teeth.

1st ........ 2nd ......... 3rd ....... now +1 for the ring, Japan seems to be obsessed with long hair in horror movies buts its a great watch, a little off topic but Gantz is a pretty good Japanese film as well, not scary (sci-fi) but worth a watch.

The Exorcist - maybe it was my Christian upbringing, but when this came out it was as scary as all bejesus .. the spinning head and projectile vomiting are cliches now but back then they were a big deal. One of those movies - like Jaws - that were cultural milestones. and another thing .... u can usually gauge a movie by the strength and hate-ability of the bad guy. Exorcist is unbeatable there.

I love the first four Hellraiser movies. The others after the first four, not so much. Some of them had some cool moments to them, but fail in comparison. I did enjoy Hellraiser: Hellseeker, though. But that's more for the return of Kirsty There is only one scene between her and Pinhead in the movie, but like all of their scenes, it's good.

The Nightmare on Elm Street movies will always have a special place in my heart. I don't find them to be scary anymore. But when I was kid, I was deeply afraid of Freddy Krueger. I honestly didn't think I would ever stop being scared of him.

The movie that comes to mind for me is The Devil's Backbone.
