What is wrong with my shirt collar?

post #1 of 22

Woke up, got ready, grabbed a tie and off to work I went. As I was putting on my tie in the car I noticed my collar looked odd.

It looks like the inside of the collar is showing, which it should not. Is this due to poor ironing skills? How can I remedy this?

Thank you500

Can you tell us the manufacturer name of the shirt and tie please? That tie looks on the polyester side. If true, all ties and shirts are not created equally. The knot isn't doing its job.

Shirt = zara. Yes, I know it's a cheaply made shirt but I was in such a rush that this was the first shirt I grabbed.
Tie = BBGF. 100% silk.
Knot = not my best but it's a 4IH

Can you just pull the knot up higher to take up the slack in the collar?

The collar is a bit large in diameter for your neck......no?

a longer set of collar stays and snugging the knot up closer to your neck would probably remedy the issue.

Cheap shirt? Didn't iron the collar? Collar size 1/2 too small?

great thread.

The collar could also be half a size too small - this is also evidenced by the . Most people dont realize that the collar should actually be a little loose and the tie should "squeeze" the collar

The effect is as if the collar points are being pulled out/back, putting strain on the button and bending the front.

I do have a set of longer collar stays. I'll try that at home. Thank you.

It's snug but I don't think it's small.

No, I do not iron the shirt. I take it to the cleaners so maybe I should ask the cleaners to focus on this part more now? What are your thoughts?

Thanks again, gents.

Cheap shirt having collar problems when laundered at a dry cleaners? That's your problem.

Get higher quality shirts and iron them by hand. You won't have these problems anymore.

+1. Gotta tighten up the knot.

Yup, pull the knot tighter and your problem should be fixed.
