Based on my experience, the one thing that would be most useful: Pictures that standardize color.

Description of problem: A brown belt looks brown, but how brown? Does it have red hues, or is it darker than it looks? Was the picture taken in low light? Did the surface sheen make it look darker? Is my monitor making it look different? Is the red/blue/yellow filter of the shot accurate? Is the angle of the shot vs. the flat leather sample making it look different?

Insecurity about what color the leathers were held me back from ordering a few years ago, and kept me cautious this time around. Make your customers feel sure about what they will be getting.

Description of possible solutions:

You can keep the "glamour" shots of the belts as the main pictures, but it would also be useful to have 1 picture of each of the belt leathers against a backdrop that has objects in it with colors we all know, in an outdoor or high light setting (lots of light like outdoors is best, but outdoors isn't uniform, so high light is probably best).

You'd obviously want to come up with something more professional, but if I took a picture of a belt next to a can of coke, an NFL football, an American flag, a bottle of French's yellow mustard and a bottle of Heinz ketchup, I'd have a very good idea of exactly what shade of brown/green/red the belt is, because I know exactly what the coke's red, the football's brown, the flag's red white & blue, the mustard's yellow, and the ketchup's red look like.

Due to copyright and ridiculousness, this clearly isn't a workable solution, but the idea behind it makes sense. Food for thought...

Really good food for thought, thank you. We try to take photos under 5000k studio lights but theres still variations there and having a known reference is a great idea, in the leather colours page as well as the product pages. I also want to take reference photos of the threads stitched on a natural veg tan background so the colours are clear.

Really grateful for the feedback

Maybe the Bakers Oak Brown? What sort of brown are you thinking? If you want lots of character and a substantial belt one of the Bakers leathers is the best choice, if you want consistency of colour and a slightly lighter weight the Sedgwick leathers are the better choice. The colour guide is here

For buckles, if you want white stainless is the way forward. Solid nickel is lovely and my own favourite but its yellow white not bright white. Given that the Stainless West End or Stainless West End Roller is the way forward I would think.

Hope thats some help!

Charlie

Thanks for the reply, Charlie. I ordered the Oak Brown Bakers Bridle with a stainless steel buckle as I like the look of the "character" in that leather.

Finally received my West End Australian Nut belt.

I like it! It fits ok, 0.5" less would fit better I think. I will keep this in mind for the next purchase.

BTW, I bet there is a sudden surge of orders from HK :slayer:

One thing to note is that the smell of leather is quite weird, kind of fishy (a problem probably for me only). Right now it is being hung outside and the smell should be less prominent in a day or two.

The leather straps are very tempting.....must resist......:fence:

Feedback for the website

I am not sure if you have visited Rancourt's website. There is a page for custom made shoe.

People can select a number of styles, leathers, threads and soles to design the shoes.

Although the picture is not a real life product, it could give an idea of what the final product looks like.

Just my 2 cents.

There has been rather a rush from Hong Kong! Nice to see our work going to somewhere it hasn't before! Im glad you like the belt. It sounds like its an Oak Brown - the smell is something some people love and some don't, its at its most intense when fresh out of the box though so Im sure it'll fade in a day or two.

I like the Rancourt app, be great if we can do something like that, I suspect our development budget won't stretch that far though, this time at least! What we're working on is to use colour swatches of leather and stitching as the thing you click to pick an option rather than just text - not quite the same but hopefully helpful, particularly if we can change the main photo to reflect the leather colour. We are better at leatherwork than websites though tbh!

Thanks again for the feedback

It is because there is a knowledgeable member in a HK discussion forum (he is a member of SF too) introduces and recommends your belts to other members. :nodding:

I also recommend your belts to my friends as well. I expect you will have more orders from HK in the future. :bounce2:

Very much appreciated, thank you. We have a tiny advertising budget so word of mouth recommendations and happy customers are our most important and valued adverts.

Got my burgundy bridle belt :)

Bit more brown than red but looks good and burgundy in natural light, certainly wearable and looks good with trousers or a suit.  only thing I will mention is there was like some residue on the back of the belt or something as I got it home, excitedly ripped into it to try it on and yeah didn't notice the stuff on the back and put it on and got this stuff on the trousers through the belt loop =/

But all good will be eyeing off the Australian nut on the new year

The stuff is the wax that the wax that makes bridle leather bridle leather - it'll just brush off both belt and trousers with a clean shoe brush, it won't do any harm to anything. Glad you like the belt!

Quick discount code for people - Friday13 will get you 13% off anything in your cart for today only - little pre Christmas sale :-)

Charlie,
Is the leather used in the Roller Buckle Bridle Leather Belt and the Kensington Bridle Leather Belt the same as in thickness and quality?

Thanks.

Hi Gerry,

Yes, completely the same in all regards. Those two belts differ only in the buckle and that the Kensington doesnt have a fixed keeper, the leather and basic design is the same

Any chance of a prolonged window of time for a discount coupon?

Excellent selection of belts by the way.

When I had just the one Equus belt I could locate it in the closet in the dark by smell alone.

Charlie what is the best belt option to wear with denim? Width is my main concern.
