Yes, very true, at least on my screen. Theres a but however! The Oak Brown is completely full grain and hand dyed by Bakers so its colour varies both on the same strap and between batches. The character (which is its point really) is consistent, but if you want a very specific colour to match a pair of shoes for e.g. its not easy to get, though we try.

I hope that makes sense?

Charlie

That is helpful. I'm not seeking an exact match, but I definitely have a gap that I want to fill.

Upon rereading, the following is only helpful if you're familiar with Edward Green leathers, and probably useless if not, but here it goes:

A failure would be to receive a belt that is materially darker than I expect, which would overlap with my other dark brown bridle leather belt (from Coach), which is very dark brown (darker than Edward Green's "Dark Oak Antique"). I need something lighter that will match well with medium browns such as EG's Edwardian, without being as light as Maple or Tan, or as orange as Chestnut.

As long as other batches of Oak Brown tend not to be significantly darker, that is the color I'm looking for. And notably, I tend to like the variation within the strap, since most of my shoes tend to have some variation as well due to factory antiquing & normal wear/polishing.

When making an order, would requesting a bias toward a lighter batch/strap from your available stock do any good?

After a little googling - assuming good photos I would say about as dark as EG Dark Oak is probably as dark as it ever gets, and we aim for lighter on the whole, but on the whole not lighter than the photo I posted.

Very happy to try and help if you indicate a colour preference. The only caveat would be it may take longer if we are using a batch thats darker than your preference.

Im glad you like the colour variation - to me makes the leather work really well with antiqued/burnished shoes.

Couple of quick development photos

This is a Gold Barenia watch strap under development. 3mm thick, unraised (unusual for us but an interesting look) hand stitched with Ecru Lin Cable. The second photo is with an 8 week old wallet to show how the leather darkens and matures. A belt in the same design will follow in due course

Hi Charlie, do you have a comparison shot of Baker's Aust. Nut and Burgundy? Which one is darker? Also, I would appreciate it if you could let me know when you have a batch of Oak Brown that's between EG Dark Oak and Dark Brown. Thanks.

I haven't Im afraid. The counterintuitive answer though is the Bakers Aus Nut is more Oxblood than the Sedgwick Burgundy is. The Bakers Aus Nut has elements of red and black and tends to be quite pull up - it gets redder when flexed and is quite dark otherwise, particularly when not in full sun. The Sedgwick Burgundy is a rich deep brown rather than an oxblood type colour. Its very nice, but it isn't an oxblood.

I hope that makes sense!

I'll see if I can take a photo tomorrow, I have both you're talking about and find the Bakers much better as a burgundy belt than the burgundy Sedgwick, as strange as that sounds.

Clearance belt ordered Wednesday night, mailed yesterday, received today. Delighted with it; your QC is obviously a lot stricter than mine would be!
Great service from Equus again, many thanks!

Great, glad you like it! Most of the clearance section is sizing errors, so we made a 34 not a 35" for e.g., but otherwise perfect and QC (Dawn) caught the error before it left us. The rest is small cosmetic flaws that happened late in the making process or minor marks in the leather that weren't noticed whilst the belts were being made - we scrap anything worse than that.

Still some bargains to be had! They are all eligible for the SF discount as well, and VAT deduction if leaving Europe.. http://www.equusleather.co.uk/index.php/Clearance-Belts/View-all-products.html

I had to grab this one as it was in my size. I have no real idea on what I'll be wearing it with yet, but I'm a huge fan of Equus belts and the Winchester buckle in particular (this would be my 3rd one), so I was too weak to resist. :D

Great score! Gutted it wasn't my size
