I'd say if you have a bespoke tailor nearby OR you're willing to wait on ebay stores/B&S...you could look just as good for a fair bit less than $2000. The tie is probably cashmere as you say, but I would personally go with a grenadine silk OR a wool tie for durability.
The fabric is called flannel. Where I am (Australia) nobody stocks flannel suits that I've seen but the cloth itself is freely available. Fox Flannels in the UK are probably the best in the world and come to about $100 per yard if you choose to go bespoke.
Word to the wise regarding buying RTW: Even if the suit doesn't fit slim when you buy it...you can tailor it. To an extent. Make sure it fits in the shoulders, and that the sleeves don't have working cuff buttons such that you don't need to alter from the shoulder.
