Ok, I get it. Although I admit that for a moment it seemed entirely possible to me that cloves are the next thing on an international blacklist of food (just like sheep innards, duck skin or tonk a beans).

Are tonka beans forbidden in the US?

Clove cigarettes are banned, but not clove cigars. They get around the ban by the lax definition of a cigar, which involved them keeping the cigarette size and changing the paper. Same shit, different name. Djarum has them also.

I don't know (I am living in Germany), but they are regarded as "highly dangerous" in some countries.

Well, logically, woodruff, or e.g. nutmeg, therefore have to be forbidden, too. Tonka beans have a unique flavour and as many spices shouldn't be consumed in a large amount. But I see, in Germany they were also forbidden and now only are allowed in limited amounts in food.
Does anyone know how much coumarin tonga beans contain?
This reminds me that I still have a chocolate bar flavoured with tonka beans.

what this guy said. Go to any tobacco shop and you should be able to find Djarum blacks, and other flavors of Clove 'cigars'

why are they banned?
huh, just based on this thread I started reading around and found a local shop that carries Djuram Blacks and picked up a pack on Sat. Have smoked a few, they're interesting. strong, but smooth. gave me a helluva headache though, and I felt a bit nauseous, but whatever.

It was either because they appealed to younger wannabe smokers or that the cloves anesthetized the wind pipe, allow for a deeper and more dangerous hit of tobacco.
