Kanye West says people don't appreciate or understand him rant

I don't think anyone can sympathize with Yeezy because he's very disrespectful. If he was more considerate of others then maybe his statement would be valid but as it stands I don't really feel sorry the guy. maybe you do.

discuss.

The 34-year-old rapper known for his outbursts was the headline act at the Big Chill music festival Saturday night, where he ranted in the middle of his set about being misunderstood and underappreciated. "I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I'm (expletive) insane, like I'm Hitler," he said. "One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.".

West received light boos from the crowd as a result..

The performer also defended the music video for his song "Monster," which features cannibalism and girls hanging from their necks..

"Who saw the video before it got banned, before they took it down and before women's groups starting saying that a person that lost the most important woman in his life is now against women in some way?" asked West, referring to the 2007 death of his mother Donda West..

West, who started his set roughly 30-minutes late, apologized to the crowd for his tardiness, saying he needed to make sure his performance was great..

"Michael Jordan changed so much in basketball, he took his power to make a difference. It's so much (expletive) going on in music right now and somebody has to make a (expletive) difference," he said..

The multiplatinum-seller is known for his outspokenness, most notably his diss toward Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he grabbed the microphone from her as she accepted the award for best female video and said Beyonce should have won it. In 2005 he said "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a Hurricane Katrina telethon..

At the music festival, West talked about some of his awards show drama, saying some of his sponsorships were canceled as a result..

But West closed his show on a positive note by paying tribute to Amy Winehouse..

West, who said he met the late singer a few years ago during Paris fashion week, played snippets of Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" and "Back to Black." He said it was "beautiful" to meet the performer and that she was "amazing.".

Then, in Kanye fashion, he began to rant..

"Thank you for protecting your artists that are still here," he said to the crowd. "This is for McQueen, for Amy, for Michael and for all the media, can you lighten up on all your artists that are still here?" he asked, receiving a roaring cheer from the crowd and leaving the stage with his 3-man band and 20-something backup dancers..

I like Kanye's music, but I can definitely see why people would hate his personality. I don't particularly care for it myself. Is there more to understand than he has strong opinions and has no concept of when to voice them tactfully? If you think the President is a racist, fine; just don't proclaim it when funds are trying to be raised to help devastated people. If you think someone else should have won an award (multiple times), fine: don't run up and grab the mic from someone who won the award by fan voting. He knows he's going to be interviewed after the show, so why not slip it in one of those. He feels he should win every award for which he's nominated, and if he doesn't it is because someone has a vendetta against him. If he were to accept that his views aren't the end-all-be-all then he would receive a warmer reception.

Kanye was an appreciated producer who got big headed. His lyrical skills are medium at best and ever since college dropout his style has become real weak. He should just ignore what everyone thinks and do himself, instead he wants to do what he wants and make sure everyone like it as well. Not going to work that way bud.

Kanye has gotten into lots of trouble saying things that are patently true. Bad timing & delivery on his part, I guess. But he's really managed to screw with our implicit (and, frankly, stupid) standards of decorum, which I appreciate. Just wish he wouldn't get so whiny about the backlash.

This is exactly what annoys me. People should say exactly what they feel, but if it's a controversial subject they should be prepared for dissenting opinions. He's just too close-minded/confident in his opinions to see that they won't be accepted by everyone.

So you think award shows should be free-for-alls, sort of like rugby, but with the trophy as the football?

In any event, I think you're badly confusing selfish, attention-seeking behavior with some sort of noble social disobedience.

You're probably right. But I'm often amused by assholery.

Sounds like a publicity stunt to try and boost an ailing pop career.

"One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did." Is very reminiscent of G.W. Bush stating that history will judge him as correct in his actions.

Ailing pop career? You can hate the guy all you want but he is still one of the most successful artists right now and has been for a long time.

I think it might be an ailing pop career. Most hits between 2004-2008, one hit 2009, managed to scrape in at number 36 in 2010, no hits so far 2011.

I think it's good to speak your mind but there's also a proper time and place to do so.

Aight, Watch the Throne with Jay-Z from current sales is being projected to be the second most popular release of the year only next to Lady Gaga who is like the most popular artist in the world at the moment. Last year in 2010 Kanye released MBDTF which was in many critics album of the year lists and sold 500,000 its first week.

Also, the link you posted was UK Top 40 hit singles. The guy may not have many singles but he still sells a shit-ton of albums and is still making great music.

Ailing pop career? What the hell? The guy has headlined sold out festivals almost every week this past summer.
