Is there any way to see what thread I'm in as opposed to having to scroll back up to the top of the thread and read the title or all the way down to the bottom?

I thought that I used to be able to read the thread title throughout the thread?

You can see it in the URL, but I agree it's hard to see what thread you are in. It used to be in every post title, I think.

This took me a while to figure out too, but as NOBD says, the only way is to look in the URL.

Site is still really slow (whole computer shits up when loading multiple tabs) with firefox on ubuntu on my eeepc 1000h. Also pretty laggy on my android phone. I've heard talk of a mobile version that presumably cuts out all of the slow javascript enhancements for speed--i would consider using that on my netbook too if necessary.

Second, I'm npt the only one saying this, but I think the home page should default to the forum listing. It is a subtle differance (since i could just click the index just as easily) but I feel that it "forces" more interaction while now I have mostly been stuck to posting in my subscriptions.

Good point. I need quite a lot of clicks to get to MC (or SW&D for that matter); aren't those forums the core of Styleforum?

Re speed: for me the forum works as quick or even quicker than the old one.

Copy and paste the text of the script into a text file and save it with the extension ".user.js". For example, I have it save as "styleforum.user.js". Then drag that file into Firefox and Greasemonkey will automatically install it.

Also, be sure to use the updated script that I posted in message #30 of this thread. It works much better than the one you quoted. If you have any questions about how it works, feel free to PM me because I don't visit the site very often anymore.

Very fast on my "real" computers. It is just on my single core atom based netbook (even with 2gb ram) that it completely stalls out when opening threads into new tabs.

Dont do it, you will miss my articles. frown.gif

Your articles will probably be in a separate, column like "Featured content" section. So, no, he won't miss that. On the other hand, our coverage of Pitti Uomo next year, and our forays into the best tailors and shoemakers in Italy, that he will miss.

Some kind of feedback if you click Subscribe (to subscribe to a thread) would be nice. When I click it, nothing seems to happen. Also, while the thread does end up in my Subscriptions list, I don't get email notificiations from it (my setting for it is Immediately). IE9/Outlook 2010, if that's relevant. I do get notifications when I've posted in them. And other notifications aren't as quick as they used to be on the old forum (really immediately).

Yeah, I know (though I never used notifications before). It's really not that useful right now for powerusers, only for occasional users. It's on my list of things to bring up. However, as you know, if you go to people with a huge list of things to do, their eyes automatically glaze over. So, we tackle the important issues first.

You should see a condensed view of B&S available very soon.

May I suggest though - when using the compact thread list and you want to go to the last post, the link to the last post is very close to the users name who posted it. Is there a way to only have the hotlink go to the post and nullify the link to the members profile in that field?

Also a question regarding PM notifications - since the switch, my PM notifications have been largely winding up in my spam folder, but not all of them. I think it depends on the user name who it comes from. Sometimes I don't get a notification at all - spam folder or not. And most recently, Ill get a PM at say, 2pm, and I won't get the email until 4am. Yesterday I got like 20 PMs, I only got 3 emails, found 2 in my spam box, and 15 of them came through while I was sleeping between 3-4am. Anything I can do about this?

Re. the first, probably not. But I've seen your fingers, and they are elegant and dainty. I am sure that you will be able to manipulate the mouse to get to either the last post or, er, the member.

Re. the second. I dunno if there is anything that we can do on this end. I think that you need to reconfigure your spam filter to let through all posts from the styleforum.net domain. Just happens sometimes. For a while, mine was spam tagging all my department head's memos.

Actually, they are. Thanks for noticing. Ill find my members when I want them, then.

Fair enough. It's my preferred way of using forums.

What's B&S?
(Okay, I know. Just never go there.)

This seems to be working now: I just got some notifications for threads I'm subscribed to but haven't posted in. Maybe Update All Subscriptions did the trick.

Don't know how "constructive" this is, but WTF can't we bump our own threads for a 10% (or any % for that matter) price drop? You guys screwed the whole thing up to address a few unauthorized bumps?

Make it so that you can open the quote/reply button in a new window. Middle-clicking them now just goes to the reply page in the current browsing window and it sucks.
