Click on your name (under your avatar) and choose All Posts from the pop-up menu. You'll see the most recent first.

Compact Thread List Page

Is now available. It's an option in your profile. Enjoy.

Cheers,

I use at least three different computers during the day. Newest version of Google Chrome and Vista on all three. The home computer is only a year old.
I never tried ad block. I considered it, but thought it would be more trouble than it is worth.

The site is fast enough to sell something and maybe read a small thread. However, it is too slow for me to really contribute(post) or read a threak.

Hmmm... Wierd... Can you clear your caches and try again? It should be browser more than OS dependent, but I'm not really sure how much render time depends on the OS....

Cool. I like.

Hey, how come the thread list on your home page isn't compacted?

So.. . I just installed Grease Monkey, how to proceed?

icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif That is awesome. Thanks! I love it.

May I suggest though - when using the compact thread list and you want to go to the last post, the link to the last post is very close to the users name who posted it. Is there a way to only have the hotlink go to the post and nullify the link to the members profile in that field?

Also a question regarding PM notifications - since the switch, my PM notifications have been largely winding up in my spam folder, but not all of them. I think it depends on the user name who it comes from. Sometimes I don't get a notification at all - spam folder or not. And most recently, Ill get a PM at say, 2pm, and I won't get the email until 4am. Yesterday I got like 20 PMs, I only got 3 emails, found 2 in my spam box, and 15 of them came through while I was sleeping between 3-4am. Anything I can do about this?

Um, where is the option?

(feeling dumb...)

Hidden, clearly.

My profile, edit account details (a button at the top), and then an obscure option about 3/4s of the way down in "forum preferences"

The Remove Homepage Carousel Option?

Have now selected it, not seeing much difference in how threads are displayed, but page loading just got a 25-50% speed boost! Cool.

Thanks!

(EDIT: OK, now I see the changes, too. :) The speed increase is definitely the most noticeable improvement though!)

I thought it was the option all the way at the bottom: Compact Thread List Page

What the hell does Remove Homepage Carousel Option do? Other than show me pictures of frowning children.

It's pretty clear. I mean, we could have a huge banner to announce it, but it is a personal preference, and not everyone will want it. You can select it or not.

Re. Removing the Homepage carousel, it will definitely increase speed some (average of 30% on that page load, but unclear about the rest of the site), but you will also miss some of our editorial coverage. Regular columns (Spoo will be doing one, as Nick V of B.Nelson will be doing one, for starters) will be in a "featured content" section, but most of the editorial coverage will probably stay in the carousel unless can can think of a better venue. In conclusion, remove if you wish, but you may make baby Jesus cry.

But what is the carousel?

On the compact thread view - still too much dead space. Also, no need to load all the reply options if I don't want to reply. This should work the same way as the old forum did, where if I click on post a reply (or quick reply) the box pops up.

Oh yeah, just seen that one too. Whoops. Thanks.

It's also a nice improvement (esp. when combined with the greasemonkey script posted earlier; almost feels like old SF again).

Removing the carousel actually had the bigger impact for me personally though.

For me personally, the speed trade-off is definitely worth it. It definitely affects all pages not just the homepage itself (no, I've no idea why that should be the case).

One thought to debate: do you think you could "spoiler code" the VIP/"stickied" threads in MC, like you'd done with rules in B&S? That would condense them massively when you're using the forum but you're not actually looking for them.

I've gotten used to the new layout, it's not that bad. One thing that constantly bugs me is the following:

When viewing the site from a smart phone, the new fonts are too small and I have to zoom in to be able to read the threads (even on an HTC HD7 with a ridiculously huge screen). The old site was better in that regard, as I was able to browse the topics without additional zooming or any other adjustments.

I think the easiest solution is to update the tapatalk software, which should be a really simple thing to do for the mods and then we'll be able to use a special application to browse the forums instead of browsing them as a big-screen optimized web page.

On the main page, the slideshow of featured content that slides over... on top of the forum choices. Sort of, like, a carousel. smile.gif

Dont do it, you will miss my articles. frown.gif
