Constructive ideas on improving the forum - Page 28

Are there any plans on updating the site so it would be possible to upload pictures from my mobile (or iPad)

Also,
Just a thought: A user should be notified when there is a +1 on post they made.

I've never quite understood why the default search searches posts, but returns thread titles. It seems like the least useful combination. Can it either search titles and return titles, or search posts and return posts? I always have to do advanced searches to find anything.

We will try. I always used advanced search as well, and click "posts only". I have been promised a August date for mobile. Much better and more functional than Tapatalk, and it will be built upon.

Cheers,

Fok.

There are lots of SW&D posts and threads that start off in MC. Have you considered something of an illustrative intro screen for new members to help funnel them into the appropriate forum?

I actually thought it was "Men's Tailored Clothing" and not simply "Men's Clothing." Perhaps the former would be more descriptive.

I second this - the recently added photos are more often than not ridiculous and make the front page look amateurish. Who wants to see a million pics of socks some guy is selling on the front page of the whole damn forum? The featured content section also takes up too much space imo - perhaps it could be integrated into the scrolling picture bar thing at the top - which I think looks really good.

By far the best feature of the front page is the recent activity section - through this I have discovered new threads and whole new sections of the forum that I would never have visited otherwise. It should get a better billing on the front page imo - currently I have to scroll down to see it as it get's pushed off the bottom of the screen by the "scrolling picture bar thing" (which is good) "featured content" (less good) and "recent photos" (crap). "Recent activity" is also constantly changing, unlike the three sections above it, so if it had a higher billing on the front page - underneath the scrolling picture bar for instance - it would make the site look more dynamic.

tldr: get rid of recent photos; merge featured content into scrolling picture bar; give recent activity higher billing; get better, cleaner looking more dynamic front page, increased activity across the forum, more cross posting, harmony, world peace.

Is there any way to switch off the Recent Reviews column? Not only is it useless - there are very few reviews so what's displayed is very dated - it's also intensely annoying. If I see "I needed a new pair of flip flops for the summer and so off to the mall..." one more time I will scream. Flip flops? Off to the mall? I do not need to see, and do not want to see, ANYONE'S review of FLIP FLOPS he bought in a MALL. And it's been there since MAY. Please offer a way to turn this ridiculous feature off. Or just that one review even. Thanks.

In the recent images section is there any way to show where in the forum the image has been posted? A couple of times I've seen stuff from the Hanger Project or Bespoke shoes, and not been able to get any information other than the caption. At the moment you're saying "hey, our users have nice shit" instead of "Look at this nice shit, come here to talk about ti!" Its useless at this point, but it could act to introduce many more people to new subjects, products and concepts.

If posts are put in a moderation queue, it would be good to have feedback that this has happened.

"Your posting will be reviewed by moderators prior to appearing in the forum".

Otherwise, it just looks like a posting went into the black hole!

One of the central mantras of UI is to have pertinent feedback in all the right places.

I agree with this. I'll see what I can do.

I'll look into this.

It's actually time for us to look at the use stats of the different features on the front page. So, stay tuned. If something is not being used, and it's not central to the features we want to promote, or is simply not doing a good job of it, we can take out some modules. Also, the "Featured items" section, meant to highlight evergreen content, will hopefully get a facelift reasonably soon. There is simply too little information taking up too little space.

There are a lot of issues we are dealing with, and the platform has some ways to go before we are satisfied with it, and a billion moving parts. Right now, it's a question of what can be done, when, and what are the priorities? I don't have time to answer all your questions in detail, or address every point in this thread, but please be aware that we are reading it and taking all opinions seriously (okay, some more seriously than others, but you guys know the drill.)
