Fok - can you just go ahead and close the Fragrance Sales and Gift Card threads? I posted notes in there about having to put each item up individually. They just aren't working and its time to call it a day and move on.

Also, can we add categories to the FS section? Fragrance and Gift Cards would be helpful.

Lastly, can you change the name of the Fragrance Split thread to The Official Fragrance Split Discussion Thread ?

Do you think it would be possible [and worthwhile] to have a "Verified" label for people like Paul (AllenEdmondsCEO), Despos, etc.? It would give them credibility and would help in case of fraud in future registrations.

Yeah. I don't think that I can create the labels myself, but I'll get someone to do that. Something like Identicheck for Styleforum? What is a good label?

J's not convinced that this is the way to go, so, do post in FS: Other, for now, but we are still thinking about this.

That's exactly what I'm thinking of! I don't know if it's something you/j would want to automate or just deal with manually (have them send some sort of verification e-mail to you manually or what have you). I was thinking, "Verified Account" or "Authentic Account". Twitter's given it a meaning that most of the internets now knows, so might as well use it.

Wait, so what do you want to do with them? If the threads aren't allowable in B&S, how would it work? I mean, they're already dead where they are, and people are posting things in FS:Other left and right. I'm not watching over it because, frankly, why bother? It doesn't seem like a moderator even pays attention in there any longer and I'm certainly not going to expend my energy on it again after doing it for nothing the first time.

They can't be moved to a FS forum because they will disappear. The classified forums are different and don't accept a normal thread.

 

We could move them to MC if you think that will work. Maybe SW&D would need its own gift card thread, I'm not sure.

 

We thought about making a FS:special type of forum that would be a non-classified forum for special things like the ebay threads, how to measure, shipping experience, etc. and gift card, fragrance split etc. But I think that would kill all those threads because there would be very little traffic to it. 

 

I guess you could restart them in FS:Other as a classified listing that has no item for sale per se, but serves the same function.

I don't know, honestly. Fok said you couldn't make a constantly revolving thread in the FS forums so I pretty much gave up on that. The reason the old split thread worked was that there was a constant discussion about the scents and the splits. Now, its dead in H&B. Why? Not exactly sure. I suppose its because people aren't looking to buy scents in H&B. Same with the Gift Card thread. Its just dead in the water. Nobody's trying to buy GC's in general chat. Plus, people have been posting them up individually all along. Nobody's policing FS:Other. We've got WTB's, individual gift cards, and individual scents and we've had them continually for a while now.

I proposed to Fok that you just kill the threads and let people go back to posting them individually. It would seem to be the best solution to the current forum software limitations. I'm fine with it if you are. I mean, if we can't do a full fledged thread, why half ass it? We can post up the splits in FS:Other, then use the thread in H&B as a discussion thread like I suggested above.

If you do end up creating the special forum, I could try them again. But, with all the forum problems already, I'm sure that's low on the totem pole.

I'm open to suggestions if you've got them, but ultimately, you've got to do what you think is right.

I guess what makes most sense to me is to allow the discussion to continue in the threads, and let people post them individually in Other. I don't really see a reason to disallow that currently. If the gift card listings get to be overwhelming, we could probably make a FS forum just for gift cards.

I agree. You can kill off the Fragrance sales and gift card threads, since no discussion goes on in there. I posted notes about putting them up for sale in FS:Other and have changed the title on the split thread to note it as a discussion thread.

Someone reassure me that after all the B&S upheaval we went through, things under the new system are not as inadequate as they seem.

Make it possible to refine B&S searches by category. I was certain this was supposed to be part of the revamp-B&S deal all along, because everyone went on and on about how it was moving to a more eBay-like model with "improved functionality."

Well, eBay lets you search whatever you want in whatever categories you want with whatever refinements you want, and I still can't search B&S for Hermes or Zegna for shoes/jackets without overdosing on necktie listings I could not be less interested in.

I could have sworn we were also promised the ability to browse/refine listings by size, but I don't see that anywhere either, so consider it another "constructive idea."
