Constructive ideas on improving the forum - Page 11

Still annoyed by the forum marking all posts as read the second you click on a thread.

I had 339 unread posts in the "would you hit it" thread (been out of town) and I accidentally clicked on it. I wasn't about to go through them all at work...but now it shows up that I have read every post in the thread so when I get to it later, I will have missed a few hundred posts unless I remember approximately where I was in the thread and work my way backwards.

Hi Fok. You mean you don't see the main page load for a second and then get greyed out, followed by the footwear page reloading? Hmmmm.. that's strange

Win 7, Chrome here as well, v 13.0.782.220 m. I switched to Chrome just to try it out on the site, after years with FF, and I've stuck with it so far.

Just tried the process in the SW & D forums, same thing for me. I loaded the main SW & D page, then clicked on 'Denim' from the drop down menu. Got to the denim main page and clicked on an ad. I then clicked the back button in Chrome, and again, the main SW & D page flashed up for a second, greyed out, and then the Denim sub-forum appeared. The message 'loading content' appears during the grey out. Today, the whole flash-grey out-reappearance process was faster than yesterday. Hope that helps.

It needs more skins, so there is variety.

There are not ever going to be any skins (except maybe as a joke). We want to keep the look and feel of Styleforum consistent.

Wierd. I'll try again.

This is the fourth time I'm trying to post this, since the first three times it hung up on the "please wait" popup in Safari 4.1.3, so I switched over to Firefox.

Anyway, it would be great if when subscribing to an entire forum you could select to include only new threads instead of all posts in all threads. Then when a thread comes up that you're interested in, you could subscribe to it, without having your subscriptions fill with replied to threads you're not interested in.

This happens to me every time I go to post in WAYWRN on my iPhone. It only works if I turn the phone off and on again, and I am on wifi. So yeah, pretty much iPhone is useless for SF now.

is it possible to make it so that new members can't have access to post any sort of internet link? Ie neutering spambots... so basically the first 10 posts, if there's a link to any website it gets auto removed or something.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this. 10 posts may be excessive, but 3 or so may discourage spammers, (a lot of these are human driven operations - labor is cheap in 3rd world countries.) I have a nemesis, and his name is lsla*

Is Huddler ever going to remove/reduce the "need javascript to post" nonsense? Adds unnecessary client-side load and I would hazard a guess that regulars don't care about pretty looks over functionality.

Tangentially, did Huddler ever explain why their scrips run through yahooapis.com?

oh, is it just me or did everyone else's inbox folders get deleted and everything was just dumped into one main inbox? I spent a lot of time organizing my messages and now just have 20 pages of jumbled messages...

also, constructively - can we make a setting to adjust the number of inbox messages shown, sort of like the setting to change how many posts we see in a thread.

oh, here's another idea. it would be a cool option to be able to click on a username and have an option to 'see all correspondences between you and X", and then it takes me to a temp search result menu taht shows all my PM's between us.

And a preview in the PM section!

(Sorry, mentioned it before.)

I... never used the folders, so I never even noticed this. We can talk about the other ideas. We have not really talked much about PM, since that (the stupid mobile notwithstanding) was one area most people thought to be improved. The next things that will be added there are cc and bcc, for obvious reasons.

I think that you still see this on the frontpage, right? Or are we talking about something else altogether?

There's a fine balance between nice looking and functionality. Obviously, functional pretty is best, but if functionality is all we were looking for, we'd never have progressed much beyond Usenet. We are actively working on both server side and client side load times though, and as others have pointed out, the site is getting faster with each new release.
