Do you like Todd Solondz? I like the earlier films such as the amusing "Welcome to the Dollhouse" and "Happiness"; the sort of witty hate speech that is exactly compelling.

I literally winced when I saw the title of this thread. I think that says it all. I'm all for shock value but I just don't like his form.

Salo was somewhat wince-inducing. John Waters is much more camp in his fitness which somehow mitigates the shock.

I can watch "Welcome to the Dollhouse" again and again - great movie.
Happiness was very good as well - but it lacks something - can't really point the finger at something in particular. Almost too trivial.

Thumbs up on Todd. I liked Happiness more than Dollhouse. But Storytelling is my fave film by him.

One of the funniest things in Happiness was when Dylan Baker's character, Bill, starts shooting people at random in the park. Somehow, it was very deadpan; please no pun intended.

These both confuse me.

Welcome to the Dollhouse, though I watched it a long time ago, was very, very annoying. And that was back when I thought annoying was charming. (This does not mean it was very, very charming).

Happiness I enjoyed very much.
