Weird Unemployment Benefits Question

This may be more suited to the Business subforum, but I have a weird question.

The country club I work for is shutting down for two weeks at the end of January. We aren't allowed to work, and thus, won't get paid. Is it possible to collect unemployment benefits for this two week period? Somebody told me once that if you couldn't work for 3 or more days consecutively, you were eligible for some kind of partial unemployment benefits. I live in Illinois, btw. Does anyone know the answer to this? It'd be pretty cool to not have to go two full weeks with 0 cash.

I know road construction workers who have been collecting unemployment checks every winter for 30 years, kwilk. Your CC shutdown doesn't sound any different than a weather-related work stoppage.

If you already have a claim on file that hasn't expired you should be able to certify for those two weeks. Otherwise, by the time you get the cash you'll already be back to work so I would just save up for the furlo.

^^most states pay fast (i.e., within a few days after filing). even if it did take some time, he'd get it as back pay, so what's the harm if he qualifies?

I took it that he was trying to have cash during the time off, not after the fact. Nothing like being broke knowing your next pay day is days/weeks away. That's when you get hungry.

I'm not so worried about that, as I'll have cash during the time off from the paycheck before. I want the money right AFTER the time off, b/c that's the paycheck I'd be missing.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't know about where you are but a new claim will take a few weeks at least (you have to wait a week after you're unemployed, then there's the unpaid waiting week) then the following week overlap.

What are they closing for? Maybe you can talk them into letting you work if it's cleaning or something.

Regardless of the timing of the money, I still want it.

They're closing to get equipment installed and professional cleaning done. I don't mind the two weeks off, I'm thinking about joining some friends at Alinea that week. But I do want some money hahaha.

I think it might be true. Plus, you do everything online now. They direct deposit everything if you get it and no human contact. Which is a good thing.

Okay, so I called IDES today and got an official answer. I'll post it here in case anyone in the future does a search for this kinda thing. I'd only get one week worth of payment, because the first week I guess is what they call a "waiting week." So I'd file for unemployment the first day that the club is closed, they'd wait a week, and then the second week they'd give me my unemployment benefits, which is equivalent to about 1/3 of my weekly salary now.
