I presume by "neck" you mean "shirt collar."

I would add my +1 to the advice to shun a gingham check with a pinstripe suit.

Wear the suit
a white linen pocket square
a white or blue solid shirt
a tie with a simple pattern but in an elegant color like purple or an interesting shade of blue with bits of white.

The effect should be similar to this

Alright. You guys have successfully convinced me against the Gingham Shirt.

So I currently have white, salmon (light pink), and blue shirts. Perhaps I could pick up a new tie for the occassion. I wanted to give you an idea of one of my ideas:

This is the exact suit I plan to wear with my light pink shirt and blue tie (put on quickly and thus poorly). Can you guys suggest some tie options? Perhaps even a shirt option or two?

Thank you much for the feedback. Glad I asked the gingham question!

Don't wear your tie. It has thin stripes that are too similar to the scale of your pinstripes. That never looks right.

Just get a navy with a simple pattern like white dots or a solid rich purple. http://www.kentwang.com/ties/navy-pindot-white.html

Stay away from salmon colored shirts. Wear a true solid pink, white or blue only.

Thanks guys for all of the advice. I actually have a Navy w/dots. I think I am going to change to a traditional white shirt. Not exactly loving the salmon. I've been looking at burberry ties.. I like the way they look. What are your thoughts.. With a white shirt?

I'm not a fan of Burberry ties. Too... brand-whoreish IMO. I have a knock off that looks just like the real ones, I paid $2 for it shipped. (this was before SF) I have never worn it and never will.

I've narrowed it down to two ties... Decision by committee here:

Option 1: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/salvatore-ferragamo-print-silk-tie/3208249?origin=category&resultback=356

or

Option 2: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/burberry-woven-silk-tie/3200226?origin=category&resultback=712

Same suit, white shirt (same style as my picture above). Thanks in advance!

Your suit and white shirt with the navy tie with white dots and a white pocket square. I don't care at all for the two ties you linked above. Go with the classic blue, white and grey combination for an elegant look.

Thanks for all the help guys. I've made a decision and will post a picture of my outfit from the event. Thank you again!
