Yeah I've been doing it for most of my life and hate it when people see my atrocious hygiene. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bit my nails until I was 22 and when I went down to Cuba I just quit for whatever reason. When I came home I bought a really nice nail file and now the habit is just gone. Every now and again I catch myself looking for a start while driving but I just use will power and stop. Being drunk is a different story though, I have woken up some mornings with a finger chewed raw and have no memory of doing it.

My name is Harvey. And I'm a nail biter.

The best strategy is to find an activity to replace nail biting. In other words, you need something to do, not just a plan to not do something. I'd also recommend investing in a manicure kit. If you keep your nails neat, perhaps it will reduce the temptation to chew.

I just quit about 6 months ago, it was a combo of byte-x, allmost religious grooming to keep neat(if you dont see a start, its easier to stay of them). And just sheer perseverance, i really wanted to quit. You might want to do in a period when there's not that much stress, because that was a multiplying factor in my case, stress = was no nails at all. Nowadays I stay off them, quite happy with it.

Hey yeah, I'm stressed out. That's the problem; biting my nails is just a symptom. *Sigh* it takes determination and I will try to keep my hands occupied.

I'm won't chew until I can get a good manicure. It should be easier to keep from biting after that.
