...where should I eat dinner? Will be with a colleague. Fancy not required, but good and local would be excellent. Will be overnighting in Saginaw on business, returning the next day.

TIA, southerners.

A coworker originally from there recommends Ocean: http://oceanbirmingham.com/ocean/

I can't speak from experience.

I can. Ocean is pretty great. I would also suggest Highlands Bar and Grill. Can't go wrong with either.

I used to make the drive from Atlanta to Birmingham fairly regularly a few years back, at least monthly. One thing I noticed was that downtown Birmingham really did not have a lot of restaurants, and that most were located outside of the core. One of my favorites was Two Pesos (actually in Pelham, which is a close-in suburb of Birmingham) which had some really great Mexican food. Easy to find and off a major thoroughfare. Highlands Bar and Grill was also a good recommendation above.

If you're a seafood guy Chucks is great. Amazing fish! Make sure you get the lemon caper sauce & if you want appetizer Uptown shrimp is the best. Dessert go for the bread pudding. You want be disappointed. nod[1].gif
