This suit belonged to my dad. He hasn't worn it in years and I'm trying to decide if it's something I could wear now. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it looks dated to me. Thoughts? I didn't include a picture of the pants as they're pretty standard. I'd have to put some money into having it altered and cleaned, but it fits reasonably well.

you're gonna have to post a basic fit pic.... it doesn't look that dated since it's just a plain grey and is vented, so let's forget about the vest for a second.

the only thing is the notch height / gorge which is tough to see on a hanger but it might be a bit low, plus low breast pockets really make me mad, but whatever.

I'm gone for the day but I'll try to post another picture this evening. The jacket fits quite well except that I need to have the arms lengthened a bit and the waist taken in.

Lose the wasit coat then show photoraphs of yourself wearing the thing if you want decent informed views.

I was going to mention the height of the notch in the lapel, also. It doesn't look horrible but I have noticed on some of my suits that this has moved up over the years.

The waistcoat is insanely dated, but otherwise looks like a bog-standard gray suit to me.

Here are pictures of me wearing the suit without the vest. I didn't have the pants sitting exactly where I normally would since they need to be taken in a fair amount. How does it look?

Aside from the regular stuff with the pants, how do the shoulders/arms feel? Do you think they are restrictive or are you able to move. The sleeves appear to be a bit short and I don't know if they could be lengthened.

And for myself, I would look at wearing a different dress shirt. That collar seem really high to me.

The shoulders and arms feel pretty good. The arms are a definitely a little short. Hopefully they can be lengthened. It wouldn't take much. I'd say half an inch at the most.

I actually just bought that dress shirt. I got 6 of them from Maxwell Clothiers. I'm happy with the fit but I agree the collars are a little high.

I'll wear shoes when I'm getting the length on the pants adjusted. I didn't have them sitting where they normally would on my waist because right now they're much too big.

Other than a few minor adjustments that were already mentioned, I agree the suit looks pretty good. Are the shoulders a little bit big on you? Only real life SFers will notice any issues with this suit, I think you're fine.

No, the shoulders are almost bang on actually. They do look a bit off in the picture, but I think it must just be the way I'm standing. Thanks for the input guys!

Looks pretty good to me.

It does however, look as it your shoulders/chest are pretty wide for this suit. This is what is causing the lapel to pull away from your shirt collar a little bit at the neck and causing the lapels to bow a bit through the chest.

I would discuss with my alterations tailor the possibility of reducing the padding in the shoulders a bit. Don't force him/her if he/she isn't comfortable doing it - but do discuss it. I think that little bit of extra room would make a fine difference in the overall fit.

Congratulations on your new, nearly free, suit! It looks good.

Agree on this, we can't judge it without a fit picture.

Fit looks ok. You only need to shorter your trousers.
