I want to buy a Burberry Trench coat

Hi there

I am new to this forum

Okay so I am from the UK and I want buy a Burberry Trench coat. I don't like the idea of paying full retail price though. Does anyone know if Burberry ever have sales instore? What other places sell them? Selfridges?

I quite like this single breasted one (£495) but it seems to lack a bit of the detail compared to the double breasted ones. but I don't think I'd feel comfortable wearing a double breasted one as I feel they are a bit OTT with the flaps etc personally

thanks for listening and i'm looking forward to any advice

cheers

Thrift one, seriously they're everywhere. When i was at Portobello Markets there were racks of them.

To answer one of your questions - Burberry do have sales in-store, reductions from full retail of up to 50% in my experience. I think you may have to wait until after Christmas though as the summer sale is unlikely to include trenchcoats.

The example you've posted above hardly qualifies as a classic trenchcoat IMO. Rethink this and go double breasted, it's just a classic piece of outerwear which you won't regret purchasing.

Thanks for the replies

I guess I will wait for the official sale as I don't really want a second hand one.

I kinda agree that the image above is not really even a trench coat, its just a rain coat and probably isn't worth getting from Burberry.

In terms of a double breasted one I like this one in Navy (it doesn't seem over the top compared to one in beige), its £995 so hopefully I can get it for less than £500 in the sale, I should start saving, I have never even considered spending so much a piece of clothing but after doing some research I gathered that its worth it, I consider it as buying a new laptop, games console or something lol.

Aquascatum does a SB one called the Fairmount (can get image up on here) and its £400, shame Burberry doesn't do one like it. http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Aquascutum+Fairmount+belted+raincoat/151021725,default,pd.html

And what prevent you from buying the Aquascutum? They are better-made and less tacky than Burberry.

Burberry just seems cooler to me and I am kinda drawn to wanting to own something Burberry. Also it seems Burberry is targeting younger people like me in my twenties whereas Aquascutum seems aimed for business/work and for older people.

don´t be fooled by marketing trickery. Don´t buy from Burberry, it´s an overpriced pseudo luxury brand. You are in the UK, get some nice fabric and get your trench coat custom made. 500 pounds for a factory made pseudo crap is not worth it! One day you will understand, the sooner the better.

I got a navy Prorsum one that looks a lot like the second one you posted. It was half off in the Mr Porter sale; I'm not sure if that will ever happen again. It's great and I'm very happy I got it. But yeah, definitely don't get the first thing you posted a photo of.

Definitely go double breasted. Don't be fooled by the aquascutum nonsense on this forum. The cut on the Burberry is much more stylish.

Either way, it's not a ton of money to spend on a jacket that you'll wear for years. Jackets are an important wardrobe staple and not something to be overlooked.

I'd suggest buying a Grenfell trenchcoat; they are available from around £660; I bought one in camel and can honestly recommend them.

I find Burberry's older stuff to be far more well-made than their recent offerings. I have an older Burb trench that is near indestructible and feels like it will last forever. In comparison, their newer coats just don't appear to have the same quality or construction.

I have a db khaki trenchcoat that I bought a few years ago. I think I've worn it like three times.

This is due to a couple of factors:

- I'm young, and it makes me feel pretentious or old
- I wonder if I look like Inspector Gadget.
- I don't know what to do with the belt

What do you all do with the belt?
