vancouver got fleeced, thats what. not a sabres fan, but i have been watching them a bit

okay, maybe not so bad, but kassian is like lucic lite. im seeing a lot of "vancouver added size and grit for the playoffs" on twitter. from what i've seen, he's one of those underperforming highly-touted power forward prospects. im all for adding grit and size and toughness, but not at the cost of cody hodgson, kid sounds like he has a really bright future.

gragnani can go either way, people think highly of him but since tuning in to watch regehr as a sabre i've only seen him derp in critical circumstances.

neither have really played much for the Sabres as (at least as I understand it) Gerbe and Ennis were given spots on the team before both of them.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, Cam Neely: The Sequel.

I think this will be the worst trade for the Canucks in a long time. This is just a brutal trade. Which is really odd because Gillis does not have a history of bad trades. This makes the Canucks worse for the playoffs now, and depending on how Kassian develops may not even give them a player back, in return for a guy in Hodgson who will be a captain in this league. This is just a dark day for Vancouver fans.

i could see raymond+ but not hodgson. future 1st line centre/captain who is playing nhl minutes for a guy who will top out at 2/3rd line winger but hasnt even earned an nhl roster spot for a full season. a lot of my university buddies came from vancouver and my facebook is alight with grief from all of them, how sad. i even feel bad for the canucks... and im a flames fan

Although I think Hodgson was (at the moment at least) overrated by Canucks faithful I still agree that this is a pretty bad trade.

Hodgson definitely has the potential to become a first line or at least a good second line centre. Kassian will be third line for life, I guarantee it. The comparisons to Lucic are completely off the mark, having seen both of them play at similar ages. As much as he's a moron, Lucic has good speed, decent hands, and good hockey IQ, none of which Kassian has ever had. That dude is a prototypical third line player, case closed.

I didn't like the trade the moment I heard it.

thought this was kinda funny:

Dave Hodge - TSN Dave Hodge - TSN ‏ @TSNDaveHodge

Ron Wilson thinking of using "robocalls" to send Leaf fans to the wrong rink.

Too late. He's RECEIVING those calls from the fans.

in all seriousness though, as much as i dislike burke/wilson, i really think this funk is all on the players. last night's game was a perfect example of 100% player failure on each and every goal, the schenn and gardiner giveaways being prime examples with the phaneuf crashing-my-own-net getting an honourable mention. those plays would be laughed at in the echl, let alone the nhl. as far as goaltending goes, looks like allaire + video scouting ruined reimer and gustavsson was never good to begin with. the only thing i can really fault burke for this year is not shoring up the goaltending situation considering he views the leafs as a playoff team; look at philly in the past few years and you see a much better team getting hamstrung by comparable goaltending.

the leafs have clearly demonstrated they can compete when they're all switched on, and burke has more or less put together a squad that should be able to at least make it to the postseason. for once, kessel isn't the goat; phaneuf should pull up his fucking socks and stop telling the media how disappointed he is and stop being a fucking pylon. the rest of the team should follow. i dont know why im saying this since i hate the leafs, but being from the area im bombarded by leafs this and that and its repulsive. the players fucking suck and need to stop blowing nuts, the end. altogether, they're greater than the sum of their parts - see lupul - but this is delicious schadenfreude for a leaf hater such as myself.

It doesnt help that the leafs have a goalie coach who is forcing his goalies to play his robotic quebec butterfly style that doesn't work for them at all.

seriously. i saw a nifty feature the other night where it showed how reimer was playing in the allaire style - positioning himself to let pucks hit him, as opposed to his old acrobatics. juicy rebound after juicy rebound..

great habs/wild game. really physical, lots of bad blood. epic hit emelin on cole, crazy comeback for minny only for setoguchi to completely derp in the shootout. man, what a finish

Hodgson is playing well with the Sabres, though I don't believe he has been on the scoresheet yet. And Miller looks like Miller again - two shutouts in two consecutive nights.

Best place to post this...as I mention from time to time, I have played goalie for about 20 years. Here are some pics of my latest mask I just got from my painter (Frank Cipra -- NHL painter). These are prior to clear coating. The theme is Batman: Arkham City.

Frank used every batman logo that has come about throughout the years on the forehead. Nice touch!

The mask itself is a custom made molded to my head. It was built by Bob Dillon who does masks for Craig Anderson, Curtis Sanford, and other pros. He came to my home in Northern Virginia when he was in town to drop off a new mask for Craig Anderson when they were in town to play the capitals.

.

I used to play for a team sponsored by a local bar, Moes Tavern, and we had Moe on our jerseys with a hockey stick...was so effin cool. Anyway, my goalie had a custom job done with the Simpsons characters on it, and a crystal ball on the chin...what a bitchin' piece.

Tight as hell. That's some top shelf work. I'd probably be too afraid of taking a puck off that beauty to play with it though.
