The problem isn't with Thomas being an idiot, he's entitled to that and he's a professional hockey player so it's not really reasonable to expect the guy to be a bastion of intellectual brilliance. The problem is that this is reportedly a team-first guy who took a pretty special event for a lot of Bruins players and staff and made it all about him, right down to the press release. If you want to opt out of a photo op based on not wanting to help the President politically, okay, but do it silently and let your teammates enjoy the moment.

Personally I think he should have gone out of respect for the office if nothing else; you may not agree with the President but he's still your President.

Ovie opting out of the All Star game over his unjust suspension.*

I don't really care as I think the All Star game is garbage. I was actually surprised someone would be allowed to participate if they had a suspension overlapping the All Star break.

*I am a caps fan and thus biased.

Wonder if he gets extra suspension for bailing on the ASG (like Lidstrom a few years back). Sucks for me, since I have tickets, but I've seen Ovie play before.

Well said, and I agree.

He can believe what he wants, but sometimes you need to suck it up and be a better man for the good of your team. I don't like how he went about it.

I have no prob with TT skipping the White House. In my mind nothing trumps personal politics. If he is suspended then what next?

As far as OV, thats effing hilarious. Having said that the All Star game sucks, and every year my wife and I make a night of the skills competition. Even that sucks. We'll be watching Netflix this weekend.

I take it you've played organized sport, and I find this odd coming from you.

When you're part of a team, you sacrifice part of your individuality every time you put on the jersey or the sweater and it becomes about more than you. Rejecting a Nobel Prize is fine, in my book because it's YOUR award. Rejecting an invite to meet the President at the White House with your team is not OK, because it isn't about you -- it's about the team.

I'd generally agree with thi, for me though, anytime you enter into the world of personal politics, the individual has the greater right than the team. For example, If I were Chris Drury two years ago when Sarah Palin was asked to dropped the puck in Philly, I would have refused.

I think that since this is an 'on ice activity' one should do it. Off ice stuff is completely different.

What do you guys think of the All Star draft? Chara's team is stacked.

"Before the draft took place, Chara was asked about his strategy.

“You have to make sure you don’t get stuck with too many right wingers,” was the last sentence in his Chara‘s answer."

Chara picked a winning team. I like it. No need to play favorites! He even left Seguin out there for a long-ass time while he stockpiled talent.

They really need to rethink some of those skill contests. The "freestyle shootout" is played out after 3 years and fastest skater isn't nearly as exciting as when they used to skate 1 lap of the entire rink.

Can't wait for the regular season to start again.

meh, i enjoyed the skills competition just to see the guys goof around and see the lighter side of things. in a downer season full of headshots, concussions, and discipline shenanigans, its incredibly refreshing to see stuff like last night. is it an objective measurement of skills? no. are some of the categories played out and boring? yeah, for sure. still fun though.
