If I were king of the world, my first decree would be to have a size 33 belt. Then... maybe something about world peace and blah blah blah.

But until that day... which should I go with? 32 belts where I use the 2nd hole? Or 34 belts where I use the 4th hole?

I reckon this depends how wide you are, because that determines the distance between your buckle and the side of your body (which is where the tail of the belt goes).

Given that you are a relatively skinny 33 belt size, I'd say a 32 will be better. If you were larger, the size up might be better, as it wouldn't reach as far towards your side belt loop.

...Am I making ANY sense here?

Is there a rule (of thumb or otherwise) that says that the end of the belt should not go back into the belt loop (or, in other words: "a belt loop shall contain only 1 piece belt, never 2?"

2nd hole - the belt will stretch.

(Unless of of course your waistline expands as well.)

Without question, the hole should be the third. There are 5 holes in a mens belt, and it should remain completely uniform with 2 blank holes on either side. Anything else looks silly.

Get the 34, have it altered for $10 at any cobbler. Better yet, buy a belt that you can alter yourself (e.g., EG)

Similar predicament for me as well; I am a 29 waist so an ideal belt size would be 31. 30's are extremely tough to find and 32s fit fine except I typically go to the second last hole (4th).

I always use the fourth hole of a belt because I never liked having short belt tails. However, Spoo bring up a good point about always using the middle hole for symmetry.

For reference, I am a 29/30 waist and buy belts in size 32.

All my belts are 32 which is unfortunate because I've gained weight so I can only use the second hole and even that is a tight fit. I think it looks silly with too little slack past the buckle. Kind of makes me sad.
