Another "is this a Grenadine tie?" thread

I've never seen a repp grenadine tie. Is this garza fina or some other weave type?

You can see the wood surface underneath because it's an unlined tie.

I've added a picture of confirmed example of Garza fina (off white color).

The "holes" in the weave on the off-white tie are arranged differently than on my tie.


I usually think of "knit" ties as having larger diameter yarn and square ends. And looser weaves.

Is this just some kind of "gauze"/jacquard that is somewhat reminiscent of Garza Fina when viewed from afar?

Your striped tie could be a grenadine. (All my grenadines are lined, so I can't easily see through the weave.) But your second one doesn't look like one--too open a weave. The off-white tie comes from the Sam Hober website. It is definitely Garza Fina.

Would this be considered a grenadine?

Not sure what to make of this vintage "Grenadine" I just picked up and thought I'd ask the tie experts of SF. Also, I am unsure of the posting etiquette so I have placed the question in this thread. Would it be better to post somewhere else or make a new thread? Anyways, on to the tie!

The label on the back says Son & Man "Arbiter" via Condotti, '84 - Roma. Untipped, unlined, purposely hand-rolled edge on only one side (makes for a very distinct asymmetrical look!), and most importantly, the "grenadine" alternates in a square pattern throughout the tie. Because of this pattern, the transparency of the tie also has a distinct look (see pic). There is a button(?) on the back of the tie - what are these for? It says "Seta caricata" on one side (which I believe refers to partially "cooked" silk to strengthen fibers) and has something like a leaf or fruit with a chain across it on the other side.








I'm in the process of restoring the condition on the tie. Does anyone have any more information they could share about the tie? Many thanks!
