Not a rumor, was detailed after its financials hit...

Rugby

Subsequent to the end of the second quarter, the Company approved a plan to discontinue operations for the Rugby brand in order to focus resources on higher growth, more scalable global opportunities with the core Ralph Lauren brand. As a result, the Company expects to close 14 stores and an e-commerce-enabled website over the balance of Fiscal 2013 and to record associated pretax charges of $20 million - $30 million during the second half of the year. Approximately 75% of the pretax charges is expected to be incurred in the third quarter of Fiscal 2013, with the remainder booked in the fourth quarter.

Yeah, expect something along those lines, I imagine they will close out their stores, put things on clearance, and eventually phase it out by throwing all the unsold or extra stock to TJ Maxx/Marshalls

Yup, Feb 2nd, month before the 4Q close. Sucks...but this isn't the only short-lived RL brand.

I really hope they move the Rugby motif or aspects of it into PRL.

maybe they will grow RRL

Listening to the call they seemed more focused on D&S and Club Monaco

...sadly...

edit: I mean strictly when speaking about their reasonings behind shutting Rugby and what not...

RRL wasn't even mentioned in the call from what I remember.

Can't say I didn't see this coming.  I'm obviously a fan (of the tamer stuff) but a good amount of the pieces were basically ridiculous and costumey.  I haven't actually bought anything in like 2 years.

Hopefully this means I'll be able to pick up that snowflake fair isle for real cheap in a few months.  Kinda want that orange sweater with the hunting shoulder patch and the ridiculous embroidery for shits and giggles too.

I would say 75% of what they have is pretty tame. It's the non-tame items that really attract me. Skulls, Oars, Racquets, cool patches etc...

I hope at least Lee and the team get to work within a branch of PRL to make some Rugby-ish items. All I know is say goodbye to Sz 36 suiting/sport coats... no more XS jackets.. no more slim trousers...no more of the high cut armholes that I love, that everybody else seems to hate...

Brooks Brothers Flatiron looks like the next Rugby, tamer though, hopefully they go a bit more wide scale with that

Otherwise Gant/Rugger is great, but much more $ than Rugby RL

The closing of Rugby is sad news. They had some good stuff at fairly reasonable price points.

On another note, does any one have one of those student discount codes or the Bizrate 10% off codes for Rugby. I tried using the above student discount codes [STUD71310 and STUD76308] for a single full price item, but it said the coupon expired. Any valid codes would be appreciated. Thanks!
