What would you wear to a Wine & Food Fest in a tropical island out in the open during the evening? Around 85 degree weather.

Wear a smug smile and a drunk expression. Just to rub in how much better your event sounds than anything I have on my social radar at the moment.
But seriously. Linen. If you aren't a hardcore anti-shorts guy then a pair of slender shorts that hit right above the knee, if you are then a pair of rolled linen pants. Drivers (or sandals since you are going to be near the beach). And a breezy linen shirt. (Feel free to unbutton down to the third button. You're on vacation.) Stick to either white or more sun faded/washed out colors (pale pastels in blue, yellow, etc).

Where can I buy some nice linen pants? I checked BR and RL and they didn't have any.
I don't think shorts are acceptable attire.

If you do live there, is it then safe to assume you are acclimated to those temperatures? If so, an unstructured linen jacket at night might be a nice touch.
