Jeans/Pants: The lower the rise, the tighter the fit?

Hi,

I was wondering if it is generally true that the lower the pants sit below the waist, the tighter the fit?

I'd say it's more the tighter the jeans, the lower the rise tends to be. It's hard to find high rised skinny jeans and also low rise straight jeans.

This isn't what the rise is. Rise is distance from crotch to waistband (low means short, high means long) and don't determine where they are worn (look at Diors, they can be worn sagged or regularly). The legs don't really have anything to do with it, you can have barrel legs on a 5" rise or twigs on an 18". Generally, slim/skinny jeans tend to have low to mid rises and looser jeans tend to have mid to higher rises though.

Ok, so is there any general relation between the lower the pants sit below the waist and the tightness of the fit? Mainly curious, because a lot of the general online vendors have in their description, sits at waists, sits just below waist, sits below waist, etc. and was wondering if this means anything in terms of fitting tighter or looser.

Not really in terms of tightness of the leg, as I explained in the other post, the leg measurements don't really relate to the rise. The top block can and generally will be effected though, a lower rise is going to mean the leg starts higher up if worn at the waist, if you wear them lower then you won't have a high start to the legs and won't have the tightness of the crotch.

I'd rely more on measurements if possible because "sits at waist" is a stupid qualification of fit, given that you can choose to wear them wherever you want

Obviously, the rise will play a part as to where the jeans sit if pulled all the way up. An 8' rise can only go so high before you get ball cleavage, and an 11" rise may give your boys plenty of space while sitting at the hip. Whether or not you can sag high-rise pants is irrelevant, and retailers aren't considering that when they post suggestions about where the jeans sit...

I don't think there is a hard line rule that lower-rise = skinnier; it all depends on the cut and the manufacturer. If you buy jeans like lucky, 7 or AG, they offer fuller cut jeans in low rise. If you look at raw denim or workwear, the fuller legs tend to have a medium to higher rise (just like KitAkira said).
